Somewhere in the last decade, cream makeup products began to overthrow powders as the preferred texture for our faces.
That trend is still growing strong – in fact, stronger – as formulations become more sophisticated and brands add more cream options to their roster.
If you’re a cream makeup devotee, the benefits are obvious: quick application with fingers (though a brush and sponge work fine too), easy to top up with a simple dab, and perfect for multitasking across different features for a one-and-done look.
So yes, they’re a lazy makeup wearer’s dream.
But they also can make skin look more radiant, plump and seamless, thanks to how effortlessly they merge with skin and how rarely they leave you with a flat matte look (which can be the risk with powders).
Summer is the perfect time to go for creamy textures too, given the heat and desire that comes with it for lightweight makeup.
We’ve tried some of the newest launches in the realms of cream makeup, and these are our favourites.
Morphe Glowstunner Hydrating Tinted Moisturiser SPF30
Get it for £18 from Morphe.
Having just launched, this base product truly delivers on the glow without making skin look greasy or sweaty (there’s a fine line).
Dry skin will enjoy its hydrating feel, but oily skin won’t feel weighed down by it.
A perfect sheer tint that offers some balancing of the complexion while letting skin still show through.
Kjaer Weis The Cream Collective
Get it for £62 from Content Beauty.
‘Clean’ beauty is a buzzword we’re dubious about, but Kjaer Weis is big in that world and her cream products are telling of why.
This limited edition palette blends out and stays put over a day’s wear, when longevity is often a critique of cream products.
Of the three colour ways, we love the palette in Happy, the tones of which embody the spirit of summer and work across a depth of skin tones.
Even better, the products are refillable so you can buy an empty palette then customise the shades.
KVD Beauty Dazzle Eyeshadow Stick
Get it for £19 from Feel Unique.
We all know KVD Beauty for that Apple Balm Foundation you couldn’t scroll on TikTok without seeing, but this cream eyeshadow stick trumps it for us.
Packed with sparkle and pigment, the emollient stick plays well using fingers or when applied straight onto the eye.
Go in sheer for a subtle wash, or layer up for full blown glamour.
Anastasia Beverly Hills Cream Bronzer
Get it for £32 from Cult Beauty.
In a generous fill, this newly launched cream bronzer can be used at the focal points on the cheeks, or gently all over with foundation for a sun kissed look.
It’s one of three new cream products the brand has just come out with, which is yet again as sign that evolving cream textures are here to stay.
There are seven shades that thankfully do offer a good range from light to dark tones.
Monika Blunder Beauty Blunder Cover
Get it for £45 from Cult Beauty.
Monika Blunder is a renowned makeup artist, so you can trust the products are expertly created.
Blunder Cover is whatever you want it to be – a foundation, concealer, highlighter/contour, or something to mix in with other products to sheer them out or manipulate the finish.
We like it best as a light foundation as it leaves the skin with a polished yet luminous glow.
Tata Harper Vitamin Infused Blush
Get it for £30.35 from Tata Harper.
The well-loved product has been redeveloped and now has an expanded shade range.
Made up with a mix of good-for-skin oils, this gives a sheer wash of colour to cheeks and can be worked with on the go – there’s no risk of going overboard here.
Sweep over lips and cheeks for an easy monochrome look.
MAC Botanic Panic Lipstick
Get it for £19 from Selfridges.
MAC’s latest limited edition launch for the summer comes with a mix of bright and punchy botanical lipsticks.
Though the shade Tulip Service applies matte, it’s the creamy MAC formula you know and love – which won’t budge under a mask.
And who can resist that packaging?
Bite Beauty Daycation Whipped Blush
Get it for £30 from Boots.
New to the UK, Bite Beauty is big in the US and it’s release here has been long awaited.
If cream blush seems scary, this one make it easy given the diffused colour it leave on cheeks.
