Queen legend Brian May, 74, recently revealed he had been under the weather after testing positive for Covid. The guitarist has since taken to Instagram and addressed a “sticky” period with his wife.
The rocker revealed that he has sought escapism by watching the popular Netflix series Designated Survivor.
The American political thriller, which originally aired on ABC in 2018, stars Keifer Sutherland (who played Thomas Kirkman) an American academic named as the designated survivor for the State of Union address.
He suddenly ascends from the position of US Secretary of Housing and Urban Development to President of the United States after an explosion kills everyone ahead of him in the presidential line of succession.
Sharing a screenshot of the series, Brian gushed over the “riveting” programme which has kept him going.
He penned: “This is probably old news to many of you in the States … but we just discovered this GREAT series on Netflix – just in time for our enforced confinement to the house due to Covid.
“@designatedsurvivor has been our best friend – helping us to get through a sticky and depressed period in our lives.
“Wonderful escapism – that at times seems more credible than our present political reality.”
He went on: “THANK YOU, Kiefer Sutherland and friends. It’s Riveting!!
“In fact … it’s become an addiction. Impossible to watch only one episode at a time!”
The guitarist signed off: “Hey @kiefersutherland – you and I met half a lifetime ago in the Formosa Cafe In Los Angeles. I never forgot that. Have followed your brilliant career avidly ever since with pride! This is a killer! Yay! Bri.” (sic)
His legion of followers inundated the comment section, as they too praised the drama.
Eric commented: “It was an excellent show!! Another great Netflix show is called Ozark. It has a final season coming up in January. Intricate plot, lots of twists and turns. Also riveting! Well developed characters as well!! I hope you check it out!”

Vicky Gordon added: “My dad is obsessed with this show! He would always tell me about the latest plot twist with great enthusiasm. Enjoy!”
His post comes after the Queen legend revealed that he tested positive for Covid and has since had to isolate at home.
In a video posted to the picture-sharing site, Brian explained that he caught the virus when he and his wife, went to a friend’s birthday lunch.
He said: “We all walk around fearful of what happened if we got this terrible plague. Well, it’s kind of ironic for me and we’ve been incredibly careful, Anita and myself, really not going anywhere and being hermit-like for the past 20 months or so.
“Then last Saturday, we decided we would go to a birthday lunch, and we thought, well this is the last social function we would go to, we’ll chance it, everybody’s going to be triple jabbed.
“So, it seemed to be set up very safely, but of course you kind of know you’re taking a risk.”
Brian said his symptoms included a “terrible cough” and headaches.
