The $3 million venture — which serves comfort food alongside marijuana — hopefully won’t go up in smoke.
Looks like celebrities want their share of the green when it comes to the burgeoning marijuana industry.
The first United States cannabis consumption restaurant, Lowell Cafe, opened its doors in West Hollywood, California on Tuesday with the financial backing of high-profile stars Miley Cyrus, Chris Rock, Mark Ronson and Sarah Silverman.
"We are thrilled to have such talented artists join our investment round, and we welcome them to the Lowell family. We are grateful to have such strong support from the creative community, and we are all looking forward to the end of cannabis prohibition," said David Elias, Lowell Co-founder and CEO, in a press release.
The cafe — which serves comfort food alongside marijuana — cost around $3 million and took two years of planning by the Lowell Herb Co, which is the "fastest-growing and best-selling cannabis brand in California", according to Forbes.
Their popular pre-rolled joints are a hit with other Hollywood heavyweights as Halsey, Woody Harrelson, Paris Jackson, Awkwafina, Usher, The Weeknd, Jimmy Kimmel, Bella Thorne, Chelsea Handler, January Jones and Calvin Harris are part of the growing fan base, per The Hollywood Reporter.
Renowned Houston Hospitality, with founders Mark and Jonnie Houston, partnered on the interior design; they are the nightlife aficionados who welcome a starry clientele, think Joaquin Phoenix and Robert Pattinson, to their Los Angeles haunts such as Madame Siam Sideshow Emporium, Pour Vous and Good Times at Davey Wayne’s.
The spiffy new 6,000 square foot space includes a dining room, lounge and outdoor cafe where "budtenders", akin to wine sommeliers, guide guests in deciding which cannabis product will best suit their visit. The item — be it a flower selection, cannabis-infused beverage, edible, concentrate, or oil — is delivered on a golden tray.
A luxury glass and copper bong is also available to help guests get the most out of their experience. Talk about being treated like a star!
