Hollyoaks producers mock AJ and Curtis Pritchard in cringe-worthy TikTok clip

Hollyoaks producers have mocked last year's " cringe-worthy" scene involving AJ and Curtis Pritchard in a brand new parody video posted to TikTok.

The clip starring Hollyoaks actress Kelly Condron – who plays Zara Morgen in the Channel 4 soap – was posted to the official programme's TikTok account. It parodies a clip that first aired this time last year, that went viral for the brothers’ ‘car crash’ acting.

AJ and Curtis, both professional dancers, joined the Hollyoaks cast for a cameo appearance in May 2021 as brothers Marco and Jacob. The original clip saw the characters plot against Trish, played by Denise Welch, in a children’s playground.

The parody sees Kelly Condron in the same set as she plays both roles, playfully swinging from the apparatus while lip syncing to the Pritchards’ dialogue.

Having quickly gone viral, the original video caused hysterics among fans, who wrote: “What in the GCSE drama is this”. Another added: “I think Curtis’ should stick to being the person who wakes up and makes everyone a coffee so everyone’s ready in the morning”, referencing another viral clip of the star from Love Island.

The Hollyoaks appearance caused controversy at the time, with renowned soap stars condemning the casting choice.

Former Hollyoaks actor Gerard McCarthy, who played Kris Fisher, tweeted: "The next time a producer/casting director says the words 'but they have a big social media following'…. Just point them in the direction of this absolute car crash!

Other actors agreed, including EastEnders’ Michael Greco, who said: “This is everything and more that is wrong with an industry I love.”

Two weeks after the disastrous episode aired, Channel 4 confirmed that AJ and Curtis Pritchard would not be returning to Hollyoaks, stating that casting had simply been as a cameo.

Speaking exclusively to OK! , the brothers said they were oblivious to the backlash, but didn’t want to ‘waste their time on negativity’.

The Pritchards are famous for their appearances on reality tv, with AJ having appeared on Strictly Come Dancing for four years from 2016, and Curtis having made his debut on Love Island season 5 in 2019.

Prior to his Hollyoaks appearance, AJ had announced his departure from Strictly to “explore opportunities” for other projects.
