BBC Breakfast presenter Dan Walker, 44, and former Good Morning Britain host Piers Morgan, 56, have reignited their rivalry in a social media war of words. Piers couldn’t resist hitting out at his former breakfast TV frenemy following his exit from Strictly Come Dancing 2021 last night in the quarter finals alongside his partner Nadiya Bychkova.

Dan had taken to Twitter to thank the professional dancer for being “the best teacher I could ever have hoped for” in a sweet post after their departure from the competition.

However, Piers issued a brutal dig in response, replying sarcastically to Dan in view of his 7.9 million followers: “You came fifth, mate. She needed a better pupil.”

Refusing to let Piers’ swipe get to him, Dan was quick to issue a witty comeback this morning.

The BBC star cheekily mocked the former ITV presenter’s infamous exit from GMB, which saw him storming off the set following an argument with weatherman Alex Beresford over Meghan Markle’s interview with Oprah Winfrey.

Dan posted a GIF of the memorable moment, as he fired back at Piers: “Morning.

“I did think about walking off when @CraigRevHorwood gave me some grief in week 2 but… who does that?”

Fans rushed to the comments section of Dan’s post to share their thoughts on his jibe.

No1Ghirl wrote: “I don’t even watch Strictly, but this retort is class.”

Kirstin Bailey commented: “Dan you are a real gentleman. I have really enjoyed watching you every week. I can’t say the same about that Morgan chap!”

Matt Den gushed: “Boom…. Mic drop.”

Ian_Lambert_ added: “@piersmorgan is going on strictly next year Dan, he’s going to show you how it’s done.”

Richard Peel agreed: “@piersmorgan put your money where your mouth is and sign up for next year and see if you can get any further. You’d be gone in the first week.”

Piers slammed Dan’s Strictly efforts after he wrote in view of his 737,000 followers: “”Well… what a ride!

“#Strictly has been a truly wonderful experience for me. I enjoyed every second.

“@NadiyaBychkova is a superstar: kind, encouraging, funny, clever, the best teacher I could ever have hoped for & a great friend.

“Thanks for the support & thanks for having us.”

Dan and Piers previously feuded on Twitter when they were both hosting rival breakfast shows.

The pair were known to row over ratings, after BBC Breakfast trounced ITV’s GMB by gaining more viewers while Piers was at the helm.

However, GMB’s ratings triumphed over BBC Breakfast on the day that Piers sensationally made a furious exit from the programme on-air earlier this year, leading him to quit his role for good.

Dan had sparked controversy before his departure from Strictly, as some viewers claimed he wasn’t a good enough dancer to make the quarter finals.

The BBC Breakfast host admitted he was told by online trolls that they wished “he’d break his leg” and “go bald”, while another told him “I f*****g hate you,” and a third said they’d sue him and his “s*** dancing”.
