Katie Piper has been secretly battling life-threatening sepsis after she was hospitalised with a kidney infection.
The 35-year-old shared the shock news in a series of video clips alongside a selfie from her hospital bed.
The TV presenter and philanthropist explained that she had now made a full recovery after being officially discharged, but had spent two weeks in hospital after a severe kidney infection spread to her blood.
She explained in the clips on her Instagram Stories that the infection had been "unexpected" and thanked the NHS medical staff for looking after her.
"It was obviously quite scary and I didn't foresee that happening," she added.
The Strictly Come Dancing star explained that she had wanted to keep her illness secret as she wasn't sure what the diagnosis would be, but had mentioned earlier in the month that she had been hospitalised.
Posting a picture of herself out of her hospital gown, Katie wrote: "Happy Days… today I have been officially discharged from treatment for my infection. So this should be my final selfie from the ward for a while.
"I didn't want to post too many details on here until I knew what was going to be the outcome.
"Thank you to everyone who has sent me get well soon msgs, cards and gifts. I had a kidney infection that spread to my blood leaving me being treated for Sepsis .
"It’s been a pretty rough time but I’m so happy to finally feel better, extremely grateful to all the NHS staff who helped me fight this infection. We are so lucky to have this system."
In a video explaining further what had happened she sent her thanks to those who had sent their well-wishes, cards, and flowers.
She also added another big thanks to the NHS medical professionals who cared for her, after she initially ignored her symptoms of feeling under the weather.
"Thanks to them I can finally get back to normal. I don't know what I would have done without all that excellent care."
Katie was blinded in one eye put in an induced coma for 12 days after her ex-boyfriend Daniel Lynch arranged for thug Stefan Sylvestre to carry out an acid on her in 2008.
She has since undergone almost 300 operations and still requires regular treatment as a result of her facial burns.
