Martine McCutcheon discussed bridesmaid plans with brother before he died age 31

Martine McCutcheon has shared that she’d been discussing her late brother’s wedding with him soon before his passing, and the Love Actually star had been asked to be a bridesmaid.

Martine, 46, announced the devastating news of her brother Laurence John (LJ)’s passing yesterday, 11 October, and said that there was “no medical explanation” for his untimely death aged 31.

“My heart is forever broken…" she began the devastating Instagram post.

"My baby brother, my gentle giant, sadly passed away, suddenly, 2 weeks ago. He was 31 years old. There is no medical explanation as to why we lost him so soon and whilst we investigate further, we are having to accept that nothing will bring our boy back to us. [broken heart emoji].”

Martine went on to reveal that LJ, who had a “mild form of special needs”, was due to get married next month and that their pair had discussed his upcoming nuptials before his passing.

"LJ fell in love and was due to get married next month…" she wrote with a pink heart emoji. "I was asked to be bridesmaid and the last time I saw him, was a few days before he passed. He, jack and his future stepson had been to try on their wedding suits and then they came back to have dinner with his fiancée and the family to see our new home.”

LJ was set to marry his fiancée Jay Eaton, 49, who shared images with her husband-to-be in August as they enjoyed a date night together.

In the wake of the devastating news, Martine’s friends rallied around the star as they flocked to the comments section of her post to share their condolences.

Myleene Klass wrote: "Martine. My heart is utterly broken for you. I am so very sorry." with a broken heart emoji.

Sheridan Smith shared: "Oh I am so sorry Martine," with a sad face emoji and a broken heart emoji as Billie Shepherd said: "I am so sorry to hear this Martine [sad face emoji] sending you and family lots of love and strength," with a white heart emoji and a dove emoji.

Meanwhile Clara Amfo added: "So sorry to learn this Martine, sending lots of love xxx".

LJ’s tragic passing comes shortly after Martine and her husband Jack McManus celebrated 10 years of marriage with an intimate vow renewal that was attended only by their seven year old son, Rafferty.

Opening up exclusively to OK! about the day, Martine shared the heartfelt words she said to Jack in her vows, as she talked about them "weathering storms together," with the words sure to be felt even more as they've dealt with their grief over LJ's death.

She said: “It was along the lines of… We’ve been together for 15 years, we’ve worked together, played together, we’re parents together, we’re husband and wife and he has been there for me when things haven’t been shiny, glossy, beautiful and perfect – far from it.

“We have weathered storms together and have been very open about the fact that our lives haven’t always been a fairy tale.“

"The fact we’ve weathered those storms together and we’ve held each other’s hand through the less pretty times has been the making of us, actually."

"And sometimes when you think, ‘Will we get through this?’ and you do, it just makes you stronger than you ever were before. And your roots as a couple just become deeper and stronger.”
