Prince Harrys ex Cressida Bonas opens up on struggles to conceive and IVF journey

Cressida Bonas has opened up about her struggles with IVF and fertility in an open letter, after welcoming her first child last month.

The former girlfriend of Prince Harry, 33, confirmed that she gave birth to a baby boy in November, shared with husband Harry Wentworth Stanley, in a letter published by The Sunday Times today.

Cressida revealed that she’d had difficulty in getting pregnant prior to welcoming her son, after trying for two years, and was left “frustrated” after every supposedly helpful method failed and specialists had said “there was nothing fundamentally wrong”.

“I spent time and money on reflexology, nutritionists, acupuncture and psychics…Even a German healer who speaks to angels. I heard nothing, not a squeak.” Cressida wrote in the open letter.

“My mind was on a constant worry loop and my obsession with getting pregnant became overwhelming, No matter how many Mystic Megs I saw or expensive supplements I took, nothing was working, and I felt as if my body was failing me.”

The model and actress recalled feeling out of place amid her struggle to get pregnant, as she attended gatherings with her friends, who all had children, and eventually “avoided” kids’ parties as a result.

After running out of ideas and answers, Cressida turned to IVF, which she admitted initially “frightened” her at the time, as she felt “powerless” in regards to the outcome.

Fortunately for her and her husband, they were successful the first time round in the treatment with their son.

Cressida acknowledged in the letter how “lucky” she and her husband are in their IVF experience, which doesn’t always work the same way for others.

The new mum continued: “I am aware how fortunate we are. We haven’t suffered the extreme heartbreaks that other couples have. I count myself extremely lucky that IVF worked for us the first time.”

Cressida added that she would have felt “alone” in her fertility struggle, if she hadn’t found a community of people to share her experiences, as she did on social media, and shared hope of her open letter helping others going through similar struggles.

Cressida married her property developer husband Harry, son of the Marchioness of Milford Haven in July 2020 in an intimate ceremony during lockdown.

The star famously dated the Duke of Sussex between 2012-2014, after being introduced by Princess Eugenie.
