WWE’s Dolph Ziggler Once Told Hugh Jackman to Punch Him in the Face as Hard as He Possibly Could

The WWE wrestler Dolph Ziggler has just shared the story of how Hollywood actor Hugh Jackman came to slug him in the face during a Monday Night Raw show back in 2011. In a recent interview with Ryan Satin on the Out of Character podcast, Ziggler (real name Nicholas Nemeth) explained the behind-the-scenes events that led up to him getting dramatically felled by the Wolverine star.

“Backstage, he’s a sweetheart guy, he was so nice, and he was a fan, he remembered Brooklyn Brawler coming to a show when he was a kid, he remembered a bunch of different things,” Ziggler said. “And he was like, ‘how can we make this awesome?’ And like… you could be bringing up someone else and I’d be like ‘oh, that was OK.’ This guy wanted to make this amazing. And he didn’t have to. There was no rules for him, he could do whatever he wanted.”

Ziggler decided to make the most of Jackman’s excitement and willingness to commit, and issued him a challenge that would make his WWE guest appearance as memorable as possible.

“And we figured it out,” he continued, “where he’s got Broski’s headband on, and he’s going to punch me in the face. And he goes, ‘so what do we do, do I just sort of swing by you?’ and I go, ‘if you don’t punch me in the face as hard as you can, I’m going to get fired, and I’m coming after you.’ I go, ‘we have 500 cameras out there and a world watching, you’ve got to punch me, because we’ve got enough people saying this stuff’s phony anyway. You’ve got to freaking hit me and make this count. Don’t worry, you can see by my jaw I can take a freaking punch.'”

As the footage from that night proves, Jackman was an extremely game opponent.

“So right before we went out, I said one last time, ‘listen man, if you’re going to halfway do it, or miss, let’s switch this right now, because I need you to punch me in the face, with my hands down,'” Ziggler said. “He goes, ‘I promise you, I won’t let you down.’ And he cracked me in the face pretty damn hard. It was great.”
