Prince Andrew proposed to Sarah Ferguson back in 1986 with a stunning ring which reportedly cost him around £24,000.
The ring Prince Andrew offered to the Duchess of York is a very similar design to Princess Diana’s ring, now worn by the Duchess of Cambridge, Kate Middleton.
The jewel features a big ruby surrounded by 10 diamonds.
The stones form a flower pattern on a yellow gold band.
Sarah Ferguson described the ring as “stunning” and “red” when the couple publicly announced their engagement.
The gorgeous precious gems formed a very delicate but also rare engagement ring.
Prince Andrew explained during their engagement interview: “We came to the mutual conclusion that red was probably the best colour for Sarah.
“That’s how we came to the choice of the ruby.
“The extra bits around the outside, we wanted something that was slightly unconventional.”
The couple got married at Westminster Abbey on July 23, 1986.
However, they officially divorced in May 1996.
After a £2.9million settlement, the Duchess of York wore the engagement ring years after her divorce.
It is estimated the ring is now worth around £70,000.
When Sarah married Prince Andrew, the Queen gave her a diamond demi-parure from Garrard.
The Duchess loved the earrings, necklace and bracelet and she was often pictured wearing the jewels
However, in 1995 the necklace and bracelet were stolen from Sarah’s suitcase during her trip from New York to London.
The jewels were believed to be worth around £385,000.
The thief reportedly took the precious gems from the necklace, which was found at his home in New York.
The bracelet was later found at the airport and returned to the royal.
An airport worker reported at the time he found the pieces of jewellery in Sarah’s luggage at Kennedy International Airport.
“I figured it was worth something,” he told The New York Times.
