Stepping out of a private jet in the All-American sneakers and a black pantsuit, Kamala drew attention to her footwear, writing “Laced up and ready to win,” as a pithy caption. In fact, Chuck Taylors seem to form an essential part of the VP’s personal branding.

The California native has addressed the footwear many, many times in interviews over the years.

She told The Cut in August 2018: “I have a whole collection of Chuck Taylors: a black leather pair, a white pair, I have the kind that don’t lace, the kind that do lace, the kind I wear in the hot weather, the kind I wear in the cold weather, and the platform kind for when I’m wearing a pantsuit.”

Kamala has pinned campaign badges to her trainers in the past.

Even her husband, Douglas Emhoff, associates Kamala with the iconic shoe.

He told the Hollywood Reporter how Kamala wore the shoes to meet his children for the first time.

Kamala Harris arrives at the White House

Katie Eastwood, Stylist Ambassador at Stitch Fix UK spoke exclusively to Express.co.uk about Kamala’s favourite trainer.

She said: “Kamala’s penchant for Converse doesn’t only represent Harris as a woman of action, but also demonstrates her accessibility and relatability – she is someone that, despite being in a leadership role, people can identify with – and there’s nothing more powerful than that.

“Kamala’s not the only one loving trainers this past year – with loungewear continuously on the up, my customers are always asking for a good pair of comfortable, practical trainers that they can wear on a daily walk or a trip to the shops between Zoom calls.

“A brand I love at the moment is Italian-born trainer brand, Superga.

“Stylish but sturdy and reliable, I’m always recommending them to customers who’ve been influenced by the Kamala Effect!”

Kamala Harris’ Converse trainers have become somewhat of a signature shoe for the first female Vice President, who was born to a biologist and a Stanford University professor, while campaigning.

On the campaign trail, Kamala was often seen pairing the sports shoes with a pantsuit.

She even wore them to grace the cover of US Vogue.

However, since her election as Vice President, Kamala has been seen more frequently in designer heels from a very expensive brand.

Kamala has a huge collection of Manolo Blahnik high heels, shoes made hugely popular by the Sex and the City TV program and subsequent movies.

The shoes have also been name-checked or featured in Fifty Shades of Grey and Gossip Girl as well as a surprising number of rap songs, including by Jay Z.

Manolo’s Kamala has been seen wearing in public add up to the value of around £8,000.

Kamala looked stunning in purple for the Inauguration, a colour many noted is one associated with the Suffragettes.

The dress and coat ensemble was by Christopher John Rogers and Sergio Hudson and she wore a pair of Manolo Blahnik heels, the BB 105 style in black patent leather, £515.

The style expert suggested Kamala uses “deliberate” fashion “tactics” like Beyonce and Hilary Clinton.

Katie commented: “Kamala has such a particular style, it’s tricky to compare it to others!

“When her outfits are comparable to someone else’s, it’s usually deliberate and embedded in meaning.

“She doesn’t dress to mimic other leaders and celebrities in the traditional sense, but she’s certainly conscious of the occasion she’s dressing for.”
