Cravings author Chrissy Teigen has just got candid about a recent surgical procedure.

The 35 year old shared on Instagram that she went to see a surgeon to have a buccal fat removal treatment, whereby some of the fat in the cheek areas gets removed in order to give the face a more “contoured” appearance.

“I did that Dr Diamond buccal fat removal thing here,” she says on a recent Instagram story, adding that she’s really seeing the results and liking them.

By “Dr Diamond” Chrissy is referring to facial plastic surgeon Dr. Jason Diamond – famous for his ongoing stint on Netflix’s Celebrity Plastic Surgeons. He specialises in facial procedures like the buccal fat removal, so Chrissy was no doubt in safe hands.

Chrissy also showed off the results of this treatment for her 35 million followers, giving a close up look at her newly chiseled cheekbones. This procedure comes after she joked in 2017 that “everything on me is fake, except my cheeks” – clearly signalling that her plump complexion is down to genetics.

The mum-of-two is known for her refreshingly candid attitude towards cosmetic procedures, often giving her fans updates on what she’s having done. It’s no surprise then that she felt she wanted to share this particular venture.

If you’re wondering what exactly is a buccal fat removal, here’s all the intel…

“It addresses unwanted fat in the cheeks and gives subtle contouring enhancements for a more streamlined appearance to the mid-face,” explain the experts at aesthetic clinic 111 Harley Street.

“It’s a quick and relatively straightforward procedure that requires a local anaesthetic. The surgeon makes an incision inside the cheeks, and removes the muscle from the buccal fat pad. We then use dissolvable sutures to close the incision.”

Results can be seen when swelling fully subsides at around four weeks post-operation, and most surgeons will advise 1-2 days off work for recovery.

You might also be wondering whether removing fat from the age is a good idea for anyone of an older age, as fat is seen as a youthful feature on the face, but this isn’t always the case.

“As you age, the fat starts to descend into the lower part of the face, and so fat accumulation in this area can make you look older. For those who naturally have fuller cheeks, the buccal fat procedure will give a more sculpted look,” say 111 Harley Street.

Well, if it could make us look like Chrissy we’d definitely give it a go!
