Fifty is the new 20 — if you’re Cindy Crawford, at least.
At a Q&A hosted by WWD on Wednesday, the 53-year-old model explained that she and fellow super Christy Turlington feel it’s important for them to keep doing photoshoots because, “We want to show women who are 53, and I think Christy just turned 50, that there’s still beauty in that.”
The mother of two recently posed in the buff for photographer Russell James’ book, sharing the shots on her social media account. “I remember some snarky person on Instagram — there seem to be a lot of those — posted something like, ‘Ah, why are you still doing those at your age?’” she recounted. “And I was like, is there an age where being nude isn’t beautiful? It’s just a different kind of beauty.”
“That is part of the reason I still do shoots,” she continued, admitting that it’s “a little harder” now to get camera ready. “I hope this is politically correct, but sometimes I say I need Viagra for shoots. It’s harder to get it up,” she said.
And clearly, fellow cover girl Naomi Campbell, 49, agrees with Crawford’s point of view when it comes to modeling au naturel. On Thursday, the legendary model shared a behind-the-scenes shot from her most recent British Vogue shoot, in which she’s posing totally nude with her back turned to the camera in the midst of a desert in Kenya.
