Stephen Merchant can currently be seen lighting up screens alongside Sheridan Smith in the hard-hitting BBC drama, Four Lives.
The four-part series tells the true story of serial killer Stephen Port and his four victims, whose murders went unsolved by the police for years.
The actor shared a still from the series on social media, describing it as: “The true story of how four men’s lives were taken by Port and the fight for justice mounted by their families and loved ones.”
The role is one of Stephen’s acting credits away from comedy and viewers have been full of praise for his portrayal of Port.
So what else has Stephen Merchant starred in and where might you recognise him from? Let’s take a look…
Stephen rose to fame as the co-writer and director of Ricky Gervais’ comedy, The Office, back in 2001.
Stephen and Ricky also co-wrote and starred in Extras from 2005 to 2007, and then The Ricky Gervais Show in its radio, podcast, audiobook and television formats.
The former stand up comedian is 6 ft 7 inches tall, making him almost a foot taller than his longtime collaborator Ricky, who is just 5 ft 8 inches tall.
Despite reports that they are no longer in contact, Ricky recently revealed they are still friends.
He said: “I haven't [fallen out with Stephen Merchant]. I've always been doing my own thing, and now they are as well.”
Stephen most recently starred in the award-winning comedy series The Outlaws alongside Christopher Walken, which is already set to air a second series later this year.
He also recently played Mika the mouse in the children’s Christmas movie, A Boy Called Christmas, an adaptation of a Matt Haig novel.
As a writer and director, Stephen recently worked on Dwayne Johnson and Florence Pugh's 2019 comedy-drama, Fighting With My Family.
The TV star has been in a relationship with model and fellow actor Mircea Monroe, 39, since 2017.
The couple lives in LA in a home that used to belong to chat show host Ellen DeGeneres. It’s believed Stephen is worth around £30 million.
