Inside Xmas at the Playboy Mansion – from panty chandelier to X-rated gifts

Christmas with Hugh Hefner at the Playboy Mansion was a celebration of candy, fake snow and lavish decorations such as a 'panty chandelier', former playmates have revealed.

Hefner founded the Playboy empire in 1953, with the initial magazine then expanding into clubs, casinos and the infamous LA mansion, where he resided with ‘playmates’ until his death in 2017.

The Mansion has since been sold, but during the festive season it used to play host to extravagant decorations and gatherings between family members and Hef’s friends.

Perhaps unsurprisingly, he was reportedly particular about the festivities, with former bunny Bridget Marquard noting: “Hef definitely has an expectation of what he wants the grounds to look like at Christmas time.”

So with Christmas well underway, Daily Star took a look back at ‘The Girls Next Door’ reality series, which peeked inside the lives of former playmates, to discover how the festive period played out at the Playboy Mansion.

Tobogganing

Perhaps the most extravagant feature of Playboy’s festive celebrations saw the Mansion’s huge lawn transformed into a tobogganing slope.

A team was hired to cover the garden in snow, with an artificial toboggan slope the crowning feature, and staff took the opportunity to engage in a spontaneous snowball fight.

“You always hear about white Christmases and how pretty and neat that is, and we actually got to have one even though it was like 70 degrees,” Bridget explained.

And, just as the bunnies prepared to hit the artificial slopes, Hefner reminded them, “remember, the good little girls get gifts, but the bad little girls get lots of gifts’.”

Once the toboggans came out, even Hefner couldn’t resist getting involved, laughing as he raced down next to playmate Bridget.

“It definitely felt more Christmassy with the snow being there,” said Kendra Wilkinson. “It was so beautiful."

Snowman Hefner

Not content with simply slipping down the snow slide, the Playboy bunnies also decided to create a monument for their boss – by immortalising Hefner in snow figurine form.

Holly explained: “We built a snow Hef, which we surprised him with. We pulled out a smoking jacket and a pipe and a hat, and we made a snow Hef complete with a penis.”

Not wishing to insult Hefner, the women ensured the snowman was well-endowed. And the tycoon approved of his likeness, posing for a picture with the bunnies and his snowy companion.

The 'Panty Chandelier'

In another video on her personal YouTube channel, Hefner’s ex-wife Crystal gave viewers a tour of the Mansion’s decorations, even taking them inside the master bedroom.

The house looked resplendent, covered in tinsel and figurines and with an enormous inflatable rudolph manning the same lawn used to host the tobogganing sessions.

And, entering Hefner’s suite, Crystal observed the ‘panty chandelier’. Hanging above the Christmas tree, the golden chandelier sported women’s underwear dangling from its arms.

“Hef asked if I wanted to take them down but I said we can just leave them up there because that’s what this place is known for; good times and panty-less people,” Crystal explained.

X-rated presents and Candy

Christmas is often considered an exercise in gift-giving and the Playboy Mansion was no exception.

Despite his adult enterprises and opulence, the playmates revealed that the ideal gift for their boss was a simple box of chocolates.

“Hef is a candy freak, and when he saw that there was a box of candy on the table, he kept looking at the tag to see if it was his, and creeping his hand over towards it,” Holly described.

And the tycoon admitted as much himself, noting: “Somebody apparently found out I like candy” as he opened a tub of Ferrero Rocher chocolates.

The obvious comparison with another magnate didn’t evade Kendra, who acknowledged: “He’s like Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory if you think about it.”

But, with bounties of presents to open, the crowning glory of that particular year were four identical rug throws which all proudly displayed a huge image of the three women cuddling naked.

Christmas films

In another video, Crystal gave viewers a tour of the living room, which doubles as a ‘movie room’ and features a massive real tree.

Standing at well over 6 feet tall, the tree holds “35 boxes” of LED lights, as well as various ornaments; though Crystal noted that the more personal trinkets are reserved for the smaller bedroom tree.

Crystal even shared Hefner’s opinion on the divisive topic of which Christmas film is best, revealing that while she prefers Elf, her late husband preferred the classics.

“Hef’s favourite Christmas movie is Miracle on 34th Street. Possibly ‘It’s a Wonderful life’, or possibly ‘Christmas Story’,” she suggested.
