Love Islands Kai quits teaching job and says his students will be buzzing over show debut

Winter Love Island will be making a welcome return to our TV screens on 16 January, with 10 singletons making their way into the iconic villa.

Among this year's contestants is Kai Fagan, 24, who is a science and PE teacher from Manchester hoping to find love on the ITV2 dating show.

While his family and friends will definitely be cheering him on, Kai has also revealed that his students have been eager for him to go on Love Island and he's sure they'll "buzzing" to see him on the TV show.

Speaking to press, including OK!, Kai, who plays semi-professional rugby for Burnage RFC, said: "I think they will all be shocked, like I would be if I had a teacher who went onto Love Island."

He continued: "But every single year when Love Island comes onto the TV, they're always like: 'Sir, Mr Fagan, you should go on Love Island, you'll do absolutely amazing on it. Go and smash it.'

"There's always rumours that I'm going to go on the show, so I think they will be absolutely buzzing when they see it."

The 24 year old also revealed that while his colleagues have been super supportive of his reality TV venture, he isn't planning to return to his job role and he handed in his resignation before jetting to South Africa.

"So obviously I had to keep it quite secretive, so I told my line manager and he was quite supportive. He said if he was me, he would do it. I told a few of my close colleagues and they all supported me for the decision and said I should do it," Kai explained.

The teacher also has celebrity connections, as his second cousin Dean Fagan was in Coronation Street as mechanic Luke Britton, and he was in the same class as England footballer Marcus Rashford.

Recalling what the Manchester United ace was like at school, Kai said: “(Marcus was) really quiet, really quiet all through school, quite reserved, focused on football, got a scholarship from (Manchester United) when he was like 11 years old so he was always trying to be the next big thing.”

Love Island 2023 kicks off on Monday 16 January with Maya Jama taking over hosting duties following Laura Whitmore's decision to quit last year.

10 singletons have jetted out to Cape Town, South Africa for the series, and will soon enter the villa and couple up with one of their fellow Islanders.

The public will then be able to vote for which bombshell contestant they wish to send into the villa to shake things up.

Love Island airs on Monday 16 January on ITV2 at 9pm.
