Mum reveals how she uses a nappy to make cleaning washing machine filter easier

Cleaning the washing machine isn’t an easy task but it is something you should keep on top off.

Forgetting it means your machine might not work as well and you’d be surprised how much builds up in there.

But with the filter usually located close to the floor, it can cause a lot of mess.

Once the cap is off, smelly liquid can come gushing out, so you need to be prepared.

One mum suggested using a nappy to collect everything and then throw it straight in the bin.

Posting in the group Mrs Hinch Made Me Do It, she said: ‘If anyone is going to clean their filter in the washing machine then put a nappy underneath when opening it soaks up all the manky water and can go straight in the bin.. thank me later lol.’

Some said an old towel would be more environmentally friendly, especially for those without young children in the house who don’t have nappies lying around, but others loved the idea.

One person said: ‘Genius! But when you think about it it seems so obvious doesn’t it. I never would’ve thought it though! thanks for this – i had to do this a few months ago and wish I’d thought of it.’

Another added: ‘I needed this advice last week. I was stood there with my mop cleaning it all up. Will use this tip next time.’

And some added their own suggestions to make the task easier.

‘An oven tray works wonders for me,’ one woman commented.

‘That or a puppy pad,’ someone else suggested.
