Prince William, his wife Kate Middleton, and younger brother Prince Harry appeared like a trio of best friends from 2011 to 2017. The three royals began campaigns together such as ‘Heads Together’ where they raised awareness for mental health. They also appeared together on royal engagements, such as welcoming then-President Barack Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama to Kensington Palace in 2016.

In 2017, Kate, William, and Harry took part in the London Marathon Training Day, where they raced each other for charity.

In 2016, Harry began dating Meghan Markle.

Their relationship was confirmed the following year, and Meghan accompanied the Royal Family to Sandringham for Christmas.

The appearance of William, Kate, Harry and now Meghan led to royal commentators launching the ‘Fab Four’ label to describe the brothers and their partners.

Harry and Meghan married in 2018 in St George’s Chapel in Windsor Castle.

However, it only took 18 months for Harry and Meghan to decide to leave the UK and step down as senior members of the Royal Family.

In the prior 18 months, Meghan was photographed alongside the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge whenever they appeared together at royal events.

However, according to body language expert Judi James, Prince William in particular looked like “a funeral director” in some of the photographs.

Judi spoke to about William’s body language as it related to the Duke and Duchess of Sussex.

Judi said: “All sibling relationships based on status dominance and parental influence can be vulnerable.

“Especially when the younger sibling wants to be treated like a high-status adult themself.

“If William did take on a role that maybe Charles should have done in Harry’s life the friction could have been inevitable.

“It was clear at the launch of the ‘Fab Four’ that Harry and Meghan saw themselves as every bit as experienced and influential as William and Kate.

“Meghan’s eloquence and determination when she spoke brought new energy and some new skills where people might have been expecting timidity and a lack of confidence,” Judi said.

“Although the public was distracted by rumours of a rift between Kate and Meghan it turned out that the unthinkable was actually true.

“That Diana’s boys, who had grown together in the shadow of shared tragedy, had actually fallen out in a way that was to prove potentially fatal.

“The brothers who could not be in any form of proximity together without grinning and laughing and winding each other up began to perform rituals of avoidance in public that looked toe-curlingly awkward.

“There are still traces of their signature body language mirroring when they are together, suggesting some deeper ties might well still bind them.

“But their faces will now wear expressions made of stone.

“While William often adopts the pose and expressions of sadness you might expect of a funeral director, Harry’s haunted eye expression and his signals of agitation and anxiety speak volumes.”
