Royal Mail will regularly update customers with any known delays. It has shared an update on what to expect this week.
Courier services such as Royal Mail had a spike in demand during the coronavirus lockdown.
This led to delays in people receiving their letters and parcels.
With lockdown measures easing, shops have reopened in parts of the UK which has taken some pressure off delivery services.
However, some customers could still be left waiting as Royal Mail shares its latest update.
A statement confirmed services are running as normal in most parts of the country.
However, resourcing issues – such as staff self-isolating due to the pandemic – could leave Britons waiting to get their mail.
It said: “Due to resourcing issues, associated self-isolation and safety measures, deliveries in some areas are likely to be disrupted this week.
“We aim to deliver at least every other day in these areas, though this may not always be possible in offices temporarily affected by very high levels of absence.
“It’s only in extreme cases – where offices are severely affected by absence levels – that this may not be possible.”
The post service apologised for any inconvenience which could be caused by delays.
It explained it will continue to prioritise the delivery of coronavirus tests and vaccination letters.
“We’re sorry for any inconvenience and thank you for your understanding,” the statement continued.
“We’re working hard to deliver as comprehensive a service as possible with the resources available to support these offices.
“And we’re ensuring we prioritise the delivery of COVID-19 vaccination letters and test kits.”
Delays can be caused by factors such as poor weather conditions, increased demand and resourcing issues.
The delivery service explained resourcing issues happen when colleagues self-isolate in line with Government guidance.
It said: “During the coronavirus pandemic, we’re doing all we can to keep our people and our customers safe while keeping the UK connected.
“Like the rest of the UK, our people are following Government and NHS advice on self-isolation and social distancing.
“In a small number of our delivery offices we occasionally experience resourcing issues if a significant number of employees have to self-isolate for a period of time.
“This, along with the continued rise in parcels as more people shop online, can restrict our ability to provide full delivery services.
“So, we may not be able to get to your address every day – but we will do everything we can to deliver to you as often as possible and to return services to normal as soon as we can.”
