Why does my girlfriend tell her ex about my money problems?

DEAR DEIDRE: WHY does my girlfriend tell her ex-boyfriend about our problems? It’s none of his business and it’s making me feel confused and jealous.

I’m 38 and we have been together for two years. She is 36.

Lately, we’ve been arguing a lot because I admitted to having debts that I’d hidden from her.

She has a son with her ex, so has to see him every couple of weeks when he spends time with his kid.

Recently, she dropped her son off at his place while I waited in the car.

She was in there for almost an hour and when she came out she looked like she’d been crying. She was also really cool with me.

I asked her what was going on and she admitted she’d been talking to her ex about our issues.

I got mad because I’d made her swear she wouldn’t tell him, and we ended up having a big row.

I don’t understand why she couldn’t keep quiet, and it makes me feel I can’t trust her.

What should I do?

DEIDRE SAYS: Your girlfriend is hurt because you lied to her, and she needed to confide in someone.

Unfortunately, the person she chose to speak to is the one person you told her not to tell. It appears you don’t trust her, and she doesn’t trust you either.

If you care about each other, you need to sit down, be honest and work out how to go forward. My support pack Relationship MOT should help you do that.
