Emily Mayfield: 1, Stephen A. Smith: 0.
On Sunday, the Browns captured their ninth win of the season, topping the Titans, 41-35. Quarterback Baker Mayfield threw for 334 yards and four touchdowns in a turnover-free performance.
As the Dawg Pound celebrated on social media, Mayfield’s wife Emily re-shared a critical clip featuring Stephen A. Smith, who chastised the Browns’ third-year quarterback on Friday.
“There’s no quarterback who has done LESS with MORE than @BakerMayfield. I still respect him, but he’s got to do more if the @Browns are going anywhere,” Smith posted Friday, to which Emily replied, “This aged well….”
Emily, who married Mayfield last July, then retweeted Smith’s change-of-heart on Sunday.
“Okay y’all. @bakermayfield is balling right now. 3 TD’s and 186 yards passing and it’s still the first half. He’s doing it right now. Gotta give credit where it’s due,” he wrote.
Mayfield, who has 21 touchdowns and seven interceptions this season so far, later praised his team after the win.
“I appreciate this team and I believe in this team and the people we have. We’ve been building and improving as the season’s gone on,” he said.
This is Mayfield’s first year under rookie head coach Kevin Stefanski. The former Heisman Trophy winner endured something of a sophomore slump last season with first-year coach Freddie Kitchens.
