D’Shawn Schwartz tip-dunk with 3.3 seconds remaining sends CU Buffs into Pac-12 title game – The Denver Post

LAS VEGAS — Add another chapter to the contentious Colorado-USC basketball rivalry. And add another milestone victory for the Tad Boyle-era Buffaloes.

In a wildly entertaining game, a tip dunk by CU senior D’Shawn Schwartz with 3.3 seconds left lifted CU to a 72-70 win against USC Friday night in the semifinals of the Pac-12 Conference tournament. The 23rd-ranked Buffs will make their second appearance in the Pac-12 title game Saturday night against fifth-seeded Oregon State, which defeated top-seeded Oregon in the first semifinal.

It was the Buffs’ seventh consecutive win against the 24th-ranked Trojans.

The Buffs were in control during an eventful first half that saw McKinley Wright IV briefly sent to the locker room after absorbing a wicked elbow from USC’s Chevez Goodwin. The sequence appeared to motivate the Buffs, who scored the final seven points of a 17-0 run after Wright exited.

That burst gave the Buffs a 14-point lead, but USC slowly chipped away, cutting the deficit to 39-30 at halftime.

USC finally tied the game at 70-70 in the final minute, but Schwartz swooped in from the wing to dunk home the winning points on a missed jumper by Wright.

Wright returned minutes after taking that Goodwin elbow and finished with a team-high 24 points. Senior Jeriah Horne knocked down four critical 3-pointers in the second half and recorded 19 points with a team-high seven rebounds.

USC star freshman Evan Mobley went 11-for-16 with a game-high 26 points.
