As the 2021 London Marathon takes place soon, you may be wondering when you can sign up for 2022’s race.
Perhaps you were inspired by Tokyo 2020’s Olympians and Paralympians. Or maybe you’re finally ready to tackle a years-old New Year’s resolution.
Some people simply love the challenge of training to run a whopping 26.2 miles, or finally ticking ‘marathon’ off the bucket list as a one-off.
Whatever your inspiration, here’s what you need to know about the 2022 London Marathon ballot.
How do I apply for the 2022 London Marathon?
It’s not quite time to get your running shoes out of the wardrobe just yet.
Details of how to apply for the 2022 race have not yet been published, unfortunately.
More information about how to enter the ballot for the 2022 event will be available soon.
However, we do already know the race is taking place in October 2022, instead of April – just like 2021’s race.
Probably best to keep an eye on the Virgin Money London Marathon entry website for further details – especially the day after October 3, the date of this year’s marathon.
Last year’s ballot was open for only five days – from October 4 to October 9 – so you will need to act fast when it opens up.
Successful entrants were then notified in late February 2021, giving them plenty of time prepare for the run.
All that said, there will be charity places, international entries, special entry categories for athletes and those who’ve scored good times in previous marathons, as well as the ballot.
If you’re already in tip-top condition to walk or run 26.2 miles, the 2021 London Marathon still has some charity places, too.
It’s currently the only way you can run in this year’s race, as all other places are full. Find out more about charity places in the race here.
If you need to train first, though, then you’ll need to wait until the 2022 race.
