Phil Foden wins Premier League Young Player of the Year for second year in a row after stunning season for Man City

PHIL FODEN has won the Premier League Young Player of the Year award for the second year running after another fantastic campaign.

The 21-year-old has yet again been an integral player for Pep Guardiola's men as Manchester City close in on the title.


England international Foden has matched his tally from the 2020-21 campaign with nine top-flight goals as well as five assists in 27 outings this term.

Foden managed to pip seven of his English compatriots and international team-mates to win the trophy.

Liverpool's Trent Alexander-Arnold was nominated, along with best mates Mason Mount and Declan Rice.

Arsenal duo Aaron Ramsdale and Bukayo Saka were also shortlisted, with Crystal Palace pair Conor Gallagher and Tyrick Mitchell also in the running.

Speaking of his delight to win the honour, he told City's website: "I am very proud to have won this award for a second season in a row.

"There are so many talented young players in the Premier League this season and it is a real honour to win it again.

“I have been really happy with my performances this season and it has been great to contribute to this team in what will hopefully be another successful year for us all.

“To be nominated alongside so many great players is an honour as they have all had great seasons for their clubs.

Foden, who has chipped in with 14 goals and 11 assists in 44 games in all competitions this term, is also favourite to win the PFA Young Player of the Year award.

And there could be more to celebrate for Foden as he aims to win his fourth Premier League title on Sunday.

City go into the final clash of the season a point ahead of Liverpool at the top of the table.

They know a win against Aston Villa at the Etihad will secure the title regardless of whether the Reds beat Wolves at Anfield.
