The final maneuvers that got Jalen Ramsey trade to Rams done

Jalen Ramsey is now with the Los Angeles Rams, and here’s how the blockbuster trade with Jacksonville went down Tuesday night for the star cornerback:

The Rams facilitated the deal for Ramsey by trading corner Marcus Peters to the Ravens earlier in the day and then adding a sweetener in the form of a fourth-round draft pick to their offer of first-rounders in each of the next two drafts.

Ramsey has been inactive for Jacksonville’s previous three games, purportedly with a back injury, since he requested a trade in late September. Six other NFL teams had been engaged with the Jaguars on the disgruntled two-time Pro Bowl defensive back, according to Pro Football Talk.

“Given the situation with Jalen, we made this decision based on what we thought is the best interest of the Jacksonville Jaguars, for this season and well into the future,” said former Giants coach Tom Coughlin, who is currently the Jaguars’ executive VP of football operations.

“We feel the trade that we struck with the Rams gives us great value for the next two drafts, and we remain very confident that our team today will compete this season for a division title. Jalen was a productive player, but the time came to move on.”

Jaguars GM Dave Caldwell and Rams counterpart Les Snead previously worked together in the Falcons’ front office.

The Rams, who have dropped three straight games after starting the season 3-0, shipped Peters to Baltimore earlier Tuesday for linebacker Kenny Young. They also placed veteran cornerback Aqib Talib on injured reserve with a rib injury and acquired center Austin Corbett from Cleveland for a fifth-round pick in 2021.
