The USWNT won a back-and-forth Olympic quarterfinals matchup 3-2 against Netherlands on Friday morning in penalty kicks.
A clutch save by Alyssa Naeher on a Lieke Martens penalty shot in the 81st minute kept the match equal. The US had two goals disallowed due to offsides in extra time, one by Christen Press and another by Alex Morgan.
The American women fell down 1-0 on a Vivianne Miedema goal before Samantha Mewis and Lynn Williams scored in a three-minute span to put the US ahead at halftime. However, Miedema netted another in the 54th minute to even the intense game.
The US was coming off an uneven group play performance, going 1-1-t to set up a rematch with the Dutch squad they beat in the 2019 World Cup final.
