Anton Du Beke hits out at Kelvin Fletcher after Strictly snub ‘He stole it from me!’

Strictly: Anton reveals he thought Kelvin had ‘no chance’

Kelvin Fletcher discussed his Strictly Come Dancing experience with Steph McGovern and Strictly pro Anton Du Beke on the former BBC Breakfast host’s Channel 4 show. Oti Mabuse and Kelvin lifted the Glitterball Trophy in 2019 but Anton revealed he thought the Emmerdale actor had “no chance” when he first signed up to the show. Anton cheekily slammed Kelvin’s win as he pointed out he lost out in the 2019 final with Emma Barton.

On Steph’s Packed Lunch, the presenter, Anton and Kelvin sat down to discuss BBC’s Strictly.

“Anton was desperate to be in this chat as well, weren’t you,” Steph quipped.

“Desperate to sit across the man who stole the trophy from me,” Anton swiped.

Kelvin replied: “I must say and I’ve said it before how well Anton is looking he seems to look younger every time I see him.”

The conversation soon turned to Kelvin’s late arrival into the 2019 series following Jamie Laing’s departure due to injury.

Anton said: “As we know, Jamie did his foot in and Kelvin got brought in at the last minute and danced with Oti.

“There was that moment in the first show because we hadn’t seen him in the group dance situation, where we’re all together.

“And he’s doing [the] Samba on the first show and we were nudging each other going, ‘He’s got no chance with this, it’s the Samba, it’s the dance of death.’

“Anyway you came out and we all stood there and went, ‘Right, it’s going to be like that is it.’”

Later, Steph was left red-faced when she inadvertently insulted the King of Ballroom.

Discussing Bill Bailey’s win, Kelvin said: “I watched it this year and it was great to see Oti be crowned champion.”

“I was obviously really wanted Oti to win,” Steph said. “Sorry, Anton.”

“Sometimes you wonder why you came I have you be honest with you,” the Ballroom and Latin dancer hit back.

Meanwhile, during a recent appearance on Paul McKenna’s Positivity Podcast, Anton revealed he never wants to make his Strictly partners feel like their the butt of his jokes.

“I’m not one of those people who says something cruel and goes, ‘I’m only joking,’ I’m not one of those people, those people are the most annoying people in the world, I hate all that!

“But if I have upset someone by saying something or doing something… because I’m not mean.

“Even if I’m teasing my ex-partners on stage or something and they’ll be in the room – I’ve had Judy Murray in the room and I’m telling stories about her and teasing her.

“And Ruth Langford, who I love, will be in the room in the theatre and I want everyone to be in on it, so we’re all together and enjoying the moment.”

“But if somebody takes offence at something I’ve said, I get really upset about that and I have to apologise immediately,” he continued.

Strictly Come Dancing returns to BBC One later this year. Steph’s Packed Lunch airs weekdays on Channel 4 at 12pm.
