Sitcom legend Kaley Cuoco, best known for her long-running role as Penny in CBS’s The Big Bang Theory, will be joining Larry David in HBO’s equally beloved showbiz satire. The comedy star took to Instagram to celebrate her upcoming guest role, with executive producer Jeff Schaffer also sharing some details of what’s to come in the new season.
Curb Your Enthusiasm season 11 will finally start this Sunday following a hiatus of well over a year.
David’s iconic meta-commentary will feature its standard cabal of guest stars, including Woody Harrelson, Lucy Liu and Seth Rogen.
Fresh off her dramatic turn in fellow HBO series The Flight Attendant, Cuoco will be appearing in one episode of the new season as a doctor named Heidi.
Taking to Instagram, she teased: “Yes I did an episode of Curb. Yes it was a bucket list moment for me!”
Cuoco will be the first main cast member from The Big Bang Theory to cameo in Curb.
Teasing her upcoming role, Schaffer told Entertainment Weekly: “She’s a doctor who shows exceeding amounts of patience with Larry.”
She’ll also be playing alongside comedy star Vince Vaughn as Heidi’s boyfriend Freddy Funkhouser, who was introduced in the previous season.
Schaffer went on: “As happens to all things Funkhouser, when Larry gets involved, things get more complicated and then they go south.”
The producer sang Cuoco’s praises, confirming she immediately fit right in with the rest of the cast.
“She said she hadn’t done a lot of improv before she came in,” he said. “And she must’ve been lying.
“She fit in perfectly — it was like she’d been on the show forever.”
Vaughn appeared in two episodes as Funkhouser last year, so there could be a chance for Heidi to become another recurring character depending on how long the series continues.

Previewing season 11, Schaffer confirmed it will take place in a post-pandemic world following production shutting down last year.
Writers and producers David and Schaffer had been working on the upcoming instalment since January last year, but many of their ideas were thrown out during the first lockdown.
Although Curb won’t completely ignore the events of the past two years, future seasons will take place in a world where Covid has happened but is no longer at the forefront.
Schaffer said: “The pandemic and the time spent either in apartments alone or with family prompted a lot of introspection among a lot of people.”
“Larry is not one of those people,” the producer clarified.
Cuoco’s role in The Big Bang Theory ended with the sitcom’s 12th and final season in 2019.
Outside of the geeky comedy hit, she is also known as the voice of Harley Quinn in DC’s animated series and will reprise her role as Cassie Bowden in the second season of The Flight Attendant.
The Big Bang Theory seasons 1-12 are available to stream on Netflix UK. Curb Your Enthusiasm season 11 will premiere Sunday, October 24 on HBO.
