Coronation Street residents have been through quite an emotional week as they faced many challenges. One was the sinkhole that emerged in the back of Gail Platt’s (Helen Worth) house, with Jenny Connor (Sally Ann Matthews) falling into the hole and becoming lost to other residents. Next week, David Platt (Jack P. Shephard) will face the anger of the other residents after he admits that he had been putting off the repair of the sinkhole for months.
During a huge storm, the sinkhole opened up this week and swallowed up multiple residents in its path.
Johnny Connor (Richard Hawley) and Jenny were left fighting for their lives after disappearing into the water, whilst Shona Platt (Julia Goulding) also jumped in to search for them.
In upcoming scenes next week, the residents are still reeling from the traumatic events that they had endured.
Newcomer Leo breaks the news to David that if they had the sinkhole repaired sooner, the catastrophe would have never happened.

David is beside himself and reveals to Sarah Platt (Tina O’Brien) the sinkhole was his fault, and Johnny would have been alive if he had fixed it sooner.
She is taken back and horrified with the revelation and prays that Carla or Jenny never find out.
Carla Connor (Alison King) lays flowers outside the factory in Johnny’s memory whilst a drunken Jenny wants to throw a part in his order, much to Daisy (Charlotte Jordan) and Carla’s advice.
As Carla and Jenny discover the tragic death of Johnny could have been avoided, they confront David over what he had done.
However, soon the sinkhole is the least of David’s worries when more tragedy is set to hit the streets.
When Daisy overhears David and Sarah talking about the sinkhole, she runs and tells Jenny and Carla, who are still in a state of shock over his death.
Being confronted by Carla and Jenny, David admits everything to them, but does this mean Jenny and Carla will plot to seek revenge on David?
Will David be able to cope with the guilt of knowing he was responsible for Johnny’s death?
Johnny died while trying to save Jenny from the sinkhole after the ground opened up and swallowed her.
In heartbreaking scenes, Johnny slipped away after making sure Jenny was safe and told her he loved her.
In a way to cope with his tragic death, Jenny hits the bottle hard, insisting she will celebrate Johnny’s life.
Speaking exclusively to Digital Spy, Julia, who plays Shona Platt, spoke about the stunts which they had to do during Super Soap Week.
She said: “We knew that we’d be doing a huge storyline for Super Soap Week because we weren’t able to do something as big as they’d originally hoped for the 60th anniversary.
“Funnily enough, I found out that I had involvement in it on the day that the Queen visited Coronation Street!
“We [producer Ian MacLeod] were talking, and I made a joke about Shona going down the sinkhole. He said: ‘Actually….’
“I was like: ‘Nooo! Please don’t tell me I’m going to die!’ He explained that Shona would act as a bit of a hero in the situation.”
Coronation Street airs weekdays at 7:30pm on ITV.
