Coronation Street star Jane Danson, who plays Leanne Battersby on the ITV soap, has dropped a clue Weatherfield could be hit by a flood on Christmas Day. Although the storylines are kept top secret ahead of episodes airing, Jane, 42, has teased the dominant plot at Christmas could involve “heavy rain” and a small child. So will there be a tragic death caused by flooding on the cobbles?

Jane, who first arrived on Coronation Street in 1997 to play Weatherfield resident Leanne, has teased heartbreaking scenes are ahead for fans.

While the ITV cast are currently months ahead of viewers, the much-loved character warned a “small child” could be in danger.

Speaking to Express.co.uk at the TRIC Awards, Jane teased: “It is really hard because we’re so much further ahead than what you are on-screen.

“A lot happens in the next couple of months.”

The actress went on to add: “I don’t know how much I can say but I will say it might involve a small child. We’ll go with that.”

When asked about the soap’s main Christmas storyline, Jane explained: “I can’t [say anything] because it isn’t done yet.

“But we should get the scripts in the next few weeks, but there is a big super soap week and it involves a lot of the cast.

“I don’t know what I’m allowed to say, but there’s a lot of rain.”

She hinted the rainfall may lead to a devastating flood which could take the life of one of the children in the soap.

There are few young children who appear in the popular soap who Jane may be referring to including, Bertie Osbourne who is the son of Daniel Osbourne (played by Rob Mallard) and Sinead Tinker (Katie McGlynn).

Harry Platt is another youngster who is the son of Sarah Platt (Tina O’Brien) and the late Callum Logan (Sean Ward) – could he fall victim to the flood?

Then there is Hope Stape (Amelia Flanagan) who is the daughter of John and Fiz Stape (Jennie McAlpine) who was recently set fire to Alina Pop’s (Ruxandra Porojnicu) flat.

Or could something happen to Ruby Dobbs who is the daughter of Tyrone Dobbs (Alan Halsall) and Kirsty Soames?

Aside from the upcoming Christmas twist, which is yet to be revealed, Jane addressed rumours Leanne could tie the knot with Nick Tilsley (Ben Price).

The couple may have had a rocky relationship in the past but after buying shares in the Bistro the couple seem to be stronger than ever.

She said: “I just purely by chance caught one of the classic Corries yesterday and it was essentially Leanne and Toyah having the same rows that they’re still having and Leanne and Nick having the same rows they’re still having, we feel like we’ve gone full circle.

“But yeah they’ve [Nick and Leanne] been childhood sweethearts since they were like 16 I think, I was 18, I think.

“Whatever it is they just keep going back to each other and what’s nice for us as actors is we get to draw from that history, but yeah she has much more drama than I do.”

Coronation Street airs on ITV on  Mondays and Wednesdays 7.30pm and 8.30pm with an hour-long episode at 7.30pm on Fridays.
