EastEnders cancelled tonight as BBC One drops soap in latest schedule shake-up

EastEnders has been cancelled tonight to make way for another broadcast, much to viewers' disappointment.

The popular show has been moved from its usual 7.30pm slot in a schedule shake-up which will see the channel air the FA Cup fourth round where Sunderland will take on Fulham.

But viewers do not need to worry as the EastEnders episode that was due to air tonight has been moved to Friday night at 7.30pm instead.

Because of this, fans will have to wait a couple more days to find out what happened after dying Lola Pearce reconciled with her long lost mum Emma in Tuesday's episode.

Viewers were shocked as Lola, who long believed that her mother had abandoned her when she was a toddler, found out the truth about why Emma had not been in her life.

Lola was quick to lash out at her once her true identity was exposed. Emma quickly tried to reconnect and explain herself, but Lola did not want to hear any of it.

However, she was soon convinced to listen to what Emma had to say, and she soon found out that Emma had been a victim of abuse and fled the family home to escape violence at the hands of Lola’s dad.

Emma opened up about the scars of her past as she told Lola about the experience she had suffered, leaving both Lola herself – and viewers at home – in floods of tears.

Terrified of returning home, Emma left her daughter in her father’s care, only returning when she had plucked up the courage to do so – but it was too late and the pair had already moved and left no trace behind to follow them.

It was then revealed that it was only after Lola’s father’s death that Emma felt safe enough to seek out her daughter

“Your dad used to drink and when he did we’d fight and he’d hurt me,” Emma told her daughter.

“He’d say he was sorry and then he’d cry and promise to change if I helped him.

“But then one time on your third birthday he threw a boiling kettle over me.

“I was in hospital for months. I was in such pain. When I finally came out and I came to find you, you were gone.”

The episode ended with the mother and daughter hugging after the emotional heart to heart.

Fans quickly took to Twitter to praise the episode as it finished.

“That episode was phenomenal… wtf @petelawson68. Well done!! Danielle Harold and Patsy Kensit were amazing!” gushed one fan on social media.

Another also agreed as they wrote: “Amazing scenes tonight and great acting!”

“This episode omg Lola and Emma . @patsy_kensit is amazing & her & @DHaroldOfficial in scenes together is just a masterclass in acting. This was the most perfect casting by @bbceastenders," added another.

One fan was even left feeling emotional as they wrote: “That episode broke my heart! Handled beautifully. Actual tears!”
