EastEnders June Brown took sweet pics of set for young fan who was denied tour

As tributes pour in for EastEnders star June Brown, one Twitter user has shared a special gift he received from the actress.

June died aged 95 after a career that spanned six decades, with her most notable role being that of Dot Cotton on the BBC soap.

Her family expressed how they were deeply saddened to announce that their "beloved mother" had passed away peacefully at her Surrey home on April 3.

June reigned over Albert Square for 35 years but quit during the show's 35th anniversary week – claiming it was due to a lack of decent storylines for the character.

As tributes have been pouring in for the late star, a man named Shaun took to Twitter to share a lovely present he received from her.

He wrote: “As a kid, gutted that EastEnders didn't do set tours, I sent June Brown a disposable camera and asked if she could snap some set pics for me instead – the kindnesses of her heart she took time out to snap these for me. What a legend.”

And sure enough, he also uploaded photos of June taken on the set of Eastenders in the Queen Victoria Pub, Dot's house and Kathy's cafe.

June also sent back a photo of herself that she signed and wrote: “Hope the photos are ok, they were quite difficult to get, love Dot”.

Simon said the gesture was “so very kind” and the post has clearly struck a chord with people as it has since gone viral. At the time of writing, it had 38.4K likes and hundreds of replies.

“Now I need to know, did she send the camera back or did she have them developed and send them back?” one person asked.

“Either way is amazing I just have a picture in my mind of her in the que [sic] at Boots and my heart needs it.”

To which Simon responded: “Ha, she sent the camera back, it was even more exciting waiting for it to be developed not knowing what I was going to find!”

Twitter users were left feeling emotional after they saw the photos, with many sharing their thoughts.

“That’s so lovely, haven’t watched EastEnders in a few years, but I suspect there are many many people who feel like she was a bit like their own grandma, really very sad,” one person commented.

“This is the best thing I’ve seen in a very long time on here. Thank you so much for sharing!” said another.

“What a lovely thing to do. Everyone I know who's met her said she was a lovely lady. A TV icon – She will be truly missed,” a third person shared.

A fourth added: “So special and personal.”

An EastEnders spokesperson passed on their condolences following the news that the legendary actress had died as they spoke of her memorable time working on Albert Square.

They said: "There are not enough words to describe how much June was loved and adored by everyone at EastEnders, her loving warmth, wit and great humour will never be forgotten.

"June created one of the most iconic characters in Dot Cotton, not just in soap but in British television, and having appeared in 2884 episodes, June's remarkable performances created some of EastEnders finest moments.

"We send all our love and deepest sympathies to June's family and friends. A very bright light has gone out at EastEnders today but we shall all be raising a sweet sherry in June's memory.

"Rest in peace, our dearest June. You will never be forgotten."
