It was reported earlier this year that Maisie Smith, 20, would be leaving Walford behind as her character makes an EastEnders exit after on-off stints on the show since 2008. With recent harrowing scenes on the BBC soap involving Tiffany’s husband Keegan (played by Zack Morris) being badly beaten in a racist attack thanks to Tiffany’s new boyfriend Aaron Monroe (Charlie Wernham), it seems Tiffany won’t be leaving in a fairytale ending. Could her guilt drive her out of Walford as she departs alone?

Speaking on Good Morning Britain, Maisie discussed her character’s exit.

“Now, you’re leaving EastEnders – spoiler alert,” host Susanna Reid commented.

She continued: “You’ve filmed your final scenes presumably because they’ll be aired next week, is that right?”

“Yeah,” the actress replied. “It feels like I filmed them ages ago, but yeah I think they come out in a couple of weeks and I’m excited about it.

“I think it’s going to be quite a shock, I haven’t even told my family how it happens.

“So it should be a good watch.”

“And does that mean, if you filmed them a couple of months ago, does that mean that that’s it for you and EastEnders, you haven’t been back?” Susanna probed.

“Or will you be back in any way?”

Co-host Martin Lewis commented: “Nice question Susanna, I see where you’re going with that.”

The EastEnders star laughed as she answered: “Listen, you never really leave EastEnders.

“They always manage to find a way to come back, they even bring you back from the dead!”

“She’s not dying everybody,” financial journalist Martin cut in. “She’s not dying! We have it here, she’s not dying.”

“Well,” Susanna added, “as you say, even if you did-“

“Even if I did, they’d bring me back at some point – you never know!” Maisie replied.

Having confirmed her departure from the soap would come as a “shock”, how might Tiffany leave Albert Square?

In recent heartbreaking scenes, Tiffany sobbed at Keegan’s hospital bed as he lay unconscious following a brutal attack.

She doesn’t yet know that Aaron was behind the assault, but her dangerous online comments attracted a group of thugs to Walford.

Because of this, Keegan’s mum Karen Baker (Lorraine Stanley) told Tiffany to leave the hospital and never come near her son again.

Later, Tiffany tearfully signed a divorce paper.

Could she make a sudden exit after discovering Keegan was beaten up at the hands of Aaron?

Once the news gets out, she isn’t likely to be very popular among Walford residents.

It’s likely Tiffany might try to confront Aaron before making an understated exit so she doesn’t attract attention.

But with her and Keegan both clearly still in love, the two are bound to be heartbroken.

Keegan isn’t set to leave EastEnders, so it seems he might find out about Tiffany’s plans to leave when it’s too late.

Perhaps Tiffany will say her goodbyes to her family before leaving after further threats from Karen and other residents.

Could she make amends with Dotty Cotton (Milly Zero) before leaving?

It seems she could do if she’s making a move in emotion-packed scenes – but how will Keegan take the news?

EastEnders continues on Thursday at 7.30pm on BBC One.
