Emmerdale’s Ellis Chapman (played by Asan N’Jie) is reunited with his dad Al Chapman (Michael Wildman) in tonight’s episode of the ITV soap. Al doesn’t quite get a welcome reception from his son and ex Jessie Dingle (Sandra Marvin) when he makes his entrance to the village after years of absence from his family’s lives. Here’s all Emmerdale fans need to know about Al Chapman and the actor who plays him.
Who plays Al Chapman on Emmerdale?
Emmerdale’s Al Chapman is played by British Soap Award-nominee Michael Wildman.
Wildman makes his debut on Emmerdale on Tuesday, August 13 and looks set to stay on the ITV soap for the long haul.
The ITV soap may be the actor’s latest role but fans will undoubtedly recognise him from a number of the following parts.
Wildman’s on-screen career began two decades ago on Channel 4 hit comedy Smack the Pony.
In the years that followed, Wildman landed roles in BBC sitcom Happiness and Peep Show.
However, it was his recurring part in British soap Family Affairs that made him a household name.
Wildman played Marc MacKenzie on the Channel 5 soap for two years prior to the show’s cancellation in 2005.
The job offers didn’t stop there for Wildman who went on to star in BBC comedy Extras opposite Golden Globe-winner Ricky Gervais and even landed a role in Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix.
In the latter half of the ‘00s, the Emmerdale star’s CV added roles in Primeval, Miranda and Casualty to the already impressive list.
On the big screen, Wildman starred opposite BAFTA-nominee Ray Winstone in the 2012 remake of The Sweeney.
In the same year, he impressed alongside Outlander star Simon Callow in drama Acts of Godfrey.
Wildman’s more recent on-screen roles have seen the soap star travel to the Caribbean for Death in Paradise as well as showing off his combat skills in Gerard Butler-led thriller London Has Fallen.
Who is Al Chapman on Emmerdale?
Al debuts on Emmerdale as the absent father of son Ellis Chapman.
Ellis’ father has spent many a year away from his son’s life and poses as a potential business investor in order to reestablish contact.
He’s a charming businessman with a lot of wealth behind him.
Billy Fletcher (Jay Kontzle) and Al don’t particularly get on well with the latter acting as his step-dad for a period of his life.
Emmerdale fans will have to continue tuning in to see just how Al’s entrance will affect Jessie’s family.
