Emmerdale actor Ryan Hawley is set to quit the ITV soap after five years, and devastated fans are already speculating what his character Robert Sugden's exit will be.
Considering Robert's currently strong relationship with husband Aaron Dingle (Danny Miller), the only ways they could be realistically split up is if he dies or goes to prison.
Robert soon becomes embroiled in a revenge plot with Aaron against Victoria's rapist Lee – which could get much darker.
This has led fans to think that Robert will kill Lee and he will be sent to jail.
One tweeted: "Wonder if they will have Robert kill Victoria’s rapist #Emmerdale."
While another commented: "So do we think Robert is going to kill Victoria rapist n go to prison as an exit or run. Only ways can see coming as of now.. #RyanHawley #emmerdale #robron."
Ryan is set to leave the soap later this year.
A source told The Sun : "Emmerdale fans have loved every minute of Robron’s story, and what Ryan has brought to playing Robert.
"But he has decided to take a break from the show for the foreseeable future and try other projects."
They added that he is expected to leave later this year but will seen on screen right up until the end of 2019.
Ryan first appeared as Robert on Emmerdale in 2014 and quickly became involved in a tumultuous affair with Aaron, despite being married to wife Chrissie.
Their romance was later exposed – but the drama certainly wasn't over for the couple.
Following this, Robert and Aaron had to endure prison stints, near-death experiences and a cheating scandal.
But they managed to make it out the other side and have been enjoying a quieter life at home with Aaron's sister Liv.
However Robert has been left devastated recently after discovering that his sister was raped Victoria during a night out, leading to Robert and Aaron's vigilante mission for justice.
It is not yet known how he will leave the soap, but fans are already speculating that his exit could be connected to Victoria's current storyline.
Over the years Ryan has won numerous awards for playing Robert, including a TRIC Award for Best Soap Actor last year and an Inside Soap Award in 2015 for Best Newcomer.
Ryan is the fourth actor to play the character of Robert, which has appeared in the soap on-and-off since 1986.
The Mirror has contacted Emmerdale for comment.
