Engineer Dick Strawbridge and his interior designer wife Angel Adoree have spent the past six years renovating their dream family home in their Channel 4 series, Escape to the Chateau. Viewers have watched the husband and wife duo transform their home, Château de la Motte-Husson in France. The pair never expected their series to be so successful, although, they recently admitted there are a lot of scenes that get cut from the episodes.
In a clip shared to their website about their new book Living the Chateau Dream, Dick and Angel discussed what it has been like having cameras following them around.
They admitted there is only a small section about being on TV in the book.
“Making television is part of what we have done, but we only touch on the television,” Dick explained.
“What’s in there and what sort of takes place.”
He continued: “To be honest there are three hours of television on our first year.
“And for the first year, we were up for most hours of the day.
“And then the next bit, building the business, there’s a lot of stuff people don’t see.
“And people say, ‘oh, didn’t you do this?’ if you think we should have done something, you probably find that we did it.”
Discussing scenes which didn’t make the final cut, the engineer added: “It may not have actually been shown on the television for lots of good reasons.
“They have to craft and keep things together to keep you there, without using your remote control and to go watch something else on the telly.
“That’s the whole game but everything we do… we do so much basic dog work”
Chipping in Angel joked: “There are some bits we do in our life now that is really boring.”

“She’s talking about me doing toilets and electricity here,” Dick explained.
After laughing about it, Angel went on to add there are only so many times someone can film them doing something like sterilising jars for their homemade jams.
“If you see us with Arthur and he will tell you. Every single time the jars are sterilised, in the oven, 80 degrees for 15 minutes.
“And Arthur knows that and not to touch it and things.”
“It’s interesting as everything in our life is normal,” the dad-of-two explained. “We do all the things that normal people would do.”
“Completely,” Angel agreed. “And I think that is what’s lovely about writing.
“You get the opportunity to talk about the details of these things and we hope you enjoy reading it.
“But we have loved writing it, we really have, it has been lovely.”
Escape to the Chateau is available to watch on All4.
