THE first trailer for new ITV drama The Sister sees Russell Tovey haunted by a deadly secret from a wild party.
The drama sees Russell play Nathan, who is surprised by an unwelcome face from his past one rainy evening.
Nathan has never been able to forget the worst night of his life: a party that led to the sudden, shocking death of a young woman.
Only he and Bob (Bertie Carvel), an eccentric old acquaintance, know what really happened… and they’ve resolved to keep it that way.
But years later, Bob appears at Nathan’s door with terrifying news that threatens to tear Nathan’s world apart. Because Nathan has his own secrets now.
These secrets could destroy everything he has desperately fought to build for himself and his family.
The trailer sees Bob arrive on Nathan's doorstep and tell him ominously that the police are digging up the woods.
Nathan is then seen talking to his wife, who reveals her little sister went missing from a party three years before.
She tearfully revealed: "She went out one night and never came home."
The flashback scene then sees Nathan meeting her sister in the woods, before the action cuts to Bob saying: "They only need a fragment of DNA, if there's anything left, they will find it."
As segments of the series appear on screen showing Nathan's interaction with his wife's sister and his spouse, he is then seen in a police interview room.
Looking nervous, he asks: "Do I need to call someone? Do I need a lawyer or something?"
The trailer then ends with Bob grabbing hold of Nathan in the woods and crying: "What did you do? What did you do?!"
The four-part series is written by Luthor writer Neil Cross and is inspired by the novel Burial, which he also wrote.
The Sister begins on ITV next month.
