Gogglebox star Amy Tapper has revealed just how she got the job as a TV sofa critic with her family.
The Tapper family were brought in as one of the original cast members when the show started back in 2013.
Mum Nikki, dad Jonathan, and siblings Josh and Amy all became favourites over their stint which lasted for five years until 2018.
Revealing how they applied for the stint on the Channel 4 show, Amy shared that producers put their tv-discussion skills to the test and the Tapper family had to prove their conversations would be Gogglebox-worthy.
‘They came round to our house where they presented us with pictures of different things, like the Queen, and asked us to talk about it as we sat on the sofa in front of cameras,’ Amy revealed to OK! Magazine.
She also admitted that this wasn’t the first reality show they’d auditioned for.
‘My mum was ill with breast cancer in 2011 and had been amazing through the whole thing.
‘She was nominated to go on a show called Jewish Mother of the Year and a team came to our house to meet us all and they filmed us interacting as a family while my mum was making spaghetti,’ Amy continued to the publication.
The family were then scouted by Channel 4 for Gogglebox.
The Gogglebox stars recently shared their emotions while watching Queen Elizabeth II’s funeral, after her death aged 96 at Balmoral Castle on September 8.
Pete Sandiford visibly choked up while watching the Queen’s crown being removed from on top of her coffin by the Dean of Windsor during the comital service portion of her state funeral.
As Pete watched the Dean undertake this task, he became visibly emotional and said: ‘Don’t know why that’s really upsetting me.’
‘Well if you think, she’s had them for 70 years,’ replied his sister Sophie before reaching over to stroke his arm in sympathy as Pete fought to hold back tears.
Other members of the Gogglebox cast were also upset as they watched the footage, with Stephen and Daniel teary during the proceedings and reflecting on the fact that people would never see the Queen again or hear her deliver a Christmas Speech.
‘I tell you now Lee, there ain’t a country in the world that can do it like we do it,’ Jenny Newby proclaimed to her friend of the pomp and circumstance of the proceedings.
Gogglebox airs Fridays at 9pm on Channel 4.
