Dancing on Ice celebrity Brendan Cole has pleaded with fellow dancer and judge Oti Mabuse for a hint of “favouritism”. The former strictly professional hopes to get one step ahead of his competitors when the competition kicks off this weekend on ITV.

The Dancing On Ice 2022 celebrities have taken to the rink and are getting in their last-minute practice ahead of its premiere on January 16.

With an all-star lineup consisting of actors, reality stars, athletes and pop stars, fans can’t wait for the show to hit the ice this weekend.

Former Strictly Come Dancing veteran Brendan, 45, is pretty confident with his skill set but has reached out to judge Oti, 31, as a backup plan.

Speaking on Lorraine, Brendan said: “I am really pleased with my skating, and I’m really pleased with the routine we are doing.”

Partnered with professional Vanessa Bauer, 25, she was quick to add a disclaimer.

“I think we just want to do the best that we possibly can in week one,” she jumped in with.

The pair already alluded to the fact that people have said “it’s not fair” as Brendan is a dancer, and although a very different discipline, dance skills such as musicality and a keen sense of balance should come in handy.

He tried to sweet-talk Oti during the interview and couldn’t sing the judges praises enough.

Brendan concluded: “The fact that Oti is here is just amazing; she is a great friend of mind.

“I love her to bits, she is going to be an amazing person to have on the panel.”

Jovially he added he had reached out to her on social media to say that “he expects a bit of favouritism”.

Viewers will have to wait and see if this is reflected in his scores during his run on the show.

Two-time Glitterball trophy winner Oti will be making her judging debut this weekend.

In December last year, the news was announced she would be replacing actor John Barrowman, and fans of the show were excited to see her on the panel.

The official Dancing on Ice Twitter account shared a picture last year to break the news, which had all the judges, Jayne Torvill, Christopher Dean, Ashley Banjo, now joined by Oti.

“Excellent news! The best judging lineup for years,” fan Amy tweeted in support.

John joined in with high praise, saying: “Ayeeee…. I’m happy with this decision. Now they have 4 professional industry judges.”

Soon to be diving more into presenting, Oti has been revealed as the new host of the ITV dating show Romeo & Duet.

Rumours are flying that she may or may not return to Strictly next season.

The South-African star won BBC’s Strictly with Emmerdale Star Kelvin Fletcher in 2019 and comedian Bill Bailey in 2020.

Dancing On Ice starts on ITV on Sunday at 6.30pm
