After making her first appearance in season 21, Officer Kat Tamin (played by Jamie Gray Holder) became a fan-favourite and beloved member of Law and Order: SVU. Despite this, an unexpected announcement from the NBC crime series revealed the character wouldn’t be returning in the upcoming instalment – to which the actress has officially spoken out about.
According to Deadline, it was reported Kat would not be returning for season 23 but instead, their exits would be revealed during the two-hour-long premiere episode.
This announcement came as a surprise to viewers because the character was promoted to series regular last season.
Katriona ‘Kat’ Tamin was first introduced in season 21 undercover as an actress in a ploy to capture serial rapist Tobias Moore (Ian McShane).
She was brutally assaulted, she received help just in time and after being transferred to the Special Victims Unit, she joined the crew and became a detective.
Although showrunners have remained tight-lipped about her exit and how it would happen, star Jamie revealed the decision was above her ‘pay grade.’
Taking to Instagram, the actress broke the news to devastated fans with a screenshot of the Deadline article and a brief message about her departure.
In the caption, she wrote: “Kat’s outta the bag… #SVU23 just got a lot less colorful.”
One heartbroken viewer responded: “Going to miss you, Jamie, you added so much each week, I was shocked to see you will not be in 23, I wish #svu changed their mind, if not I wish you bigger and better things.”

The actress concluded: “Thank you to the SVUINVERSE for welcoming me with open arms, it’s been a great experience that I have grown from greatly, that I will never forget.”
