Loose Women fans blast Janet Street-Porter for body-shaming Wayne Rooney

Loose Women viewers have been left unimpressed after a comment one of the panellists made about Wayne Rooney.

Janet Street-Porter was discussing the ex-footballer's recent court appearance as part of the ongoing 'Wagatha Christie' libel trial during Wednesday's show, when she said: "It’s become the battle of the blokes.

"Have you ever seen Wayne Rooney looking so smart?"

The 75 year old added: "Wayne has been ordered by his wife to shape up, fit into that suit and my goodness it looks like he is going to explode out of it any minute."

Some viewers were disgruntled by Janet's comment and soon took to social media to share their opinions.

One wrote: "@ITV @loosewomen Janet Street-Porter fat shaming Wayne Rooney! If this was a man fat shaming a women on TV there would be outrage! What are you going to do about this? This woman needs to be removed from the show, forever!"

Another said: "Oof! That wasn't a nice comment Janet! #loosewomen."

A third added: "@loosewomen spend everyday promoting MEN'S mental health, yet Janet has just body shamed @WayneRooney and nobody even looked twice? Okay then."

The Rooneys have been in court for two weeks, and the High Court trial centres around Coleen Rooney's claim that Rebekah Vardy leaked stories about her to the press.

Back in October 2019, Coleen said she carried out a sting operation to find out who was behind stories about her ending up in the papers. Rebekah vehemently denied the claim and subsequently sued her fellow WAG for libel.

Ex-footballer Wayne Rooney has attended court with his wife each day and gave his evidence to the packed courtroom on Tuesday.

He described the "traumatic" impact the past few years have had on his wife and said he has watched her "really struggle".

Wayne told the court: "For me and my wife, we don’t want to be in this court.

"I've watched my wife over the last two-and-a-half years really struggle with everything, becoming a different mother, a different wife."

The libel trial's closing speeches will be heard on Thursday and a verdict is due in the ocming weeks.
