Love Is Blind’s Lauren shades Giannina and Damian after wedding disaster

It turns out Love Is Blind’s Lauren Speed was as surprised about Giannina Gibelli and Damian Powers’ reunion as the rest of us.

Netflix viewers watched on in horror as Gigi legged it from her wedding day – and fell over in the mud – minutes after being dumped by Damian at the altar.

After a brief split, the pair confirmed on the reunion episode that they decided to give their relationship another go.

And Lauren couldn’t help throwing a sprinkling of shade when asked for her thoughts on their romance.

During a chat on BBC Radio 1’s The Reality Tea Podcast – alongside husband Cameron Hamilton – she told hosts Raj and Pilar: ‘Ermmmm… You know what? I wish the best for them…

‘To me, I’m going to be honest, it was a little shocking, especially how their wedding ended.

‘So, I mean, if they are pushing forward in their relationship then I honestly wish them the best.

‘But I’m not going to lie and say that I’m not surprised, because I am surprised.’

Fair enough.

Gigi and Damian’s rollercoaster romance began when they met in the infamous pods – and things between them spiralled even more when they came face-to-face.

Who could forget that row over sex?

The drama came to a head on their wedding day – when Damien decided he didn’t want to marry Gigi, leading to her running out of the venue and slipping over during a meltdown.

Side note: It might only be the beginning of 2020, but it’s definitely a contender for TV moments of the decade.

And, chatting to Metro.co.uk about the now-infamous scene, Love Is Blind producer Chris Coelen admitted they were absolutely not ready for the drama.

‘We were totally unprepared for that to happen, otherwise we would have had cameras stationed in better positions,’ he told us.

‘We had a cameraman who just took off [after her] and was a very fast runner, he chased her as she was bolting down that long driveway. It was crazy.

‘She was out there, her mum followed her down, they were probably out there for half an hour, maybe more. It was very emotional.

‘It was a huge surprise when she took off, it was crazy.’

Lifting the lid on what else we didn’t see, he continued: ‘They came back and she wanted to get cleaned up. Ultimately she wanted to confront Damian and we wanted to let those moments be their own moments.

‘We certainly weren’t going to guide that in any way that wasn’t organic. Everything was very personal in terms of the way they reacted to their particular circumstance.’

But, while we love her, some of Gigi’s antics had some fans convinced she’s actually an actress.

And Chris has poured ice cold water all over those claims.

Laughing off the speculation, he added: ’She’s definitely not an actress.

‘Is she dramatic? Yes, she’s dramatic. I will tell you from spending time with her, she’s a very emotive person.

‘She has a really interesting background, she’s been shaped by multiple different forces into the amazing, unique person that she is.

‘I just think that’s who she is as a person.’

Love Is Blind is available to stream on Netflix now.
