MAMA June’s daughter, Anna Cardwell, reunited with her mother during her sister’s baby shower, but she says she still has “no relationship” with her mom who “never apologized” for past mistakes.
The 26-year-old, whose bond with June broke after her mother rekindled a relationship with the man accused of molesting her as a child, exclusively told The Sun she and her mother never had a conversation about their past.
“You know, I've never had a conversation with her where she was like ‘Oh I'm sorry for what happened or, I'm sorry for this.
"It’s like she is always brushing everything off and like acting like everything is fine and nothing happened.”
Anna reunited with June after years of separation at her sister Lauryn ‘Pumpkin’ Efrid’s baby shower this past weekend.
Mama June Shannon was just 15 when she gave birth to Anna, and while their relationship is complicated, it wasn’t always that way.
Anna explained once her mother rekindled a relationship with her alleged childhood sex abuser, Mark McDaniel, after his release from prison in 2014 – things changed between them.
“We used to be really, really close, but all that stuff happened with her getting back with Mark, we really had distance after that.
"We haven’t talked really since then. I pushed myself away from her with that, because it was like why would you do that kind of thing?” Anna questioned.
Anna, who is a mother of two, added that beyond Mama’s hurtful reunion with her abuser, they also had a legal battle over money.
Anna pursued a lawsuit against June for alleged unpaid appearances on Here Comes Honey Boo Boo. The suit also took aim at the network, TLC, as well as others who she claimed should have protected her and her daughter Kaitlyn’s wages.
"Us fighting over money didn’t help their relationship," Anna added.
“That didn’t go anywhere and it was a long process, and I was like 'you know what screw it.' Yes, it's a lot of money, but still it's like it's not like I want to stress myself over trying to get it.”
The mother of two added that it would have cost her as much in lawyers' fees to get the money she claimed she was owed.
So much time has passed since their initial falling out that Anna says she doesn’t dwell on it these days.
“I've been over it for a while. I've been over it for a long time. For years now I’ve been over it, you know, I’ve tried to communicate with Mama, but I never get no reply back.”
Anna, who was also known as Chickadee on the show, added: “I don't try too much, I don't I don't try to force the relationship, you know.
“When we do see each other we talk, but I feel like she just tries to avoid me in a way. I don't try to force the relationship; if she don’t want one, she don't want one.”
Anna adds that when she does talk to her mother, she reminds her: “I’ve always told her, ‘You know the phone works both ways.’
“She can message me and ask how the girls are doing or how I’m doing, and stuff like that. She doesn’t. I’m not too worried about it. I’ve been doing fine without having a Mama relationship.”
June’s daughter said even if they had a conversation about the hurt in their past, she is afraid it might make their relationship worse than where they are at now.
“When Mama and I are around each other we still talk and laugh, and Mama is still her loud and talkative self. But me and her, just sitting and having an actual conversation about stuff, we have never had an actual conversation, just me and her and I don’t think that will probably ever happen.
“It could make things better, but it could also make things worse, it could be an emotional thing. It could be where we are back to talking again or it could end up where we don’t see each other again. Either way, it's going to be awkward.”
Anna says despite her relationship with her mother, her and her sisters all get along great and always have.
June’s standing in the family took a nose dive in recent years after she spiraled into drug addiction.
In 2019, June was arrested on drug charges, including possession of a controlled substance and drug paraphernalia charges in Alabama.
She was arrested with her boyfriend Geno Doak, who was charged with third-degree domestic violence, possession of a controlled substance, and possession of drug paraphernalia.
It is estimated that June spent a staggering $900,000 in a year on drugs.
Recently, June made the bold statement in an Instagram post as she celebrated about being off drugs and alcohol for 16 months.
June revisited her prison sentence in a preview trailer for the WeTV show.
At the beginning of the clip, June ensured her family and friends that she "will not be going to prison," but her boyfriend Geno exclaimed: "She's not listening to me."
Mama previously escaped jail time for possession of crack cocaine by agreeing to do community service.
The TV personality and her boyfriend were arrested for possession of crack cocaine in March of 2019.
The pair had avoided prison time until this point, after agreeing to court supervision and community service.
