Masked Dancer fans convinced they've worked out Cheryl is Squirrel after Cher Lloyd 'distraction'

FANS of The Masked Dancer are convinced that they've worked out the identity of Squirrel – and it's NOT Cher Lloyd.

Having listened to another round of baffling clues, viewers took to Twitter with their latest theory, with all fingers pointing towards Cheryl Tweedy.

Squirrel performed a flawless dance routine to Camilla Cabello's Havana before giving a few new clues as to who is behind the mask.

As well as referencing singer and producer Will.i.am – and showcasing obvious dancing skills – there were a few sneaky mentions of Newcastle.

Fans were sure that the links to the city could point to the former Girls Aloud star, who was proudly born and raised in the city.

Taking to Twitter, fans shared their theories about the mum-of-one – linking her identity to the latest round of clues.

"Definitely Cheryl Tweedy, Newcastle references & colours plus Will I am had a huge crush on her," one woman wrote.

While another agreed: "I don’t know how I’ve ended up watching this but I’m saying Squirrel is Newcastle’s very own Cheryl."

A third simply said: "Why am I convinced squirrel is Cheryl."

"I thought squirrel was someone from the pussycat dolls but now I'm thinking Cheryl," a fourth wrote, as a fifth said: "It's Cheryl! She's an amazing dancer."

Previously, fans were convinced that Squirrel was former X Factor contestant Cher Lloyd due to links to Cheryl.

The former Girls Aloud singer mentored Cher during her time on the reality singing show back in 2010.

One fan speculated Squirrel's outfit of a purple crop top and track pants completed with a black and white bow on her head was a nod to Cher.

The speculation over Squirrel's true identity comes as other fans think they've got Eastenders' star Maisie Smith pegged as Squirrel.

They also felt the character could be linked to Bonnie Langsford, who played Carmel Kazemi in EastEnders, and previously worked as a professional dancer.

Squirrel performed to Camila Cabello hit Havana, and one fan tweeted: "Havana – Bonnie Langford was in Guys and Dolls, there was a song called Havana."

Last night, Knickerbocker Glory was unmasked as Craig Revel Horwood, and Frog as Kelly Brook.

Tonight's grand finale will see the remaining contestants – Scarecrow, Carwash, Zip, and Squirrel perform again before their real identities are finally revealed.
