Emmerdale star Louisa Clein may have filmed her final scenes as sex abuser Maya Stepney but the actress has suggested that this doesn’t necessarily mean the character won’t be back in the near future. Could Jacob Gallagher’s (Joe-Warren Plant) ordeal be set to continue? Or might Louisa reprise her role for a trial in the future?
Speaking to Metro.co.uk on the red carpet of the British Soap Awards, the star revealed that the story still had some way to go with further twists and conflicts to play out – and it may not be the last we see of Maya.
She also reflected on the importance of telling the story and acknowledged that while many fans have not enjoyed watching it, it was the intention to create discomfort around the issue and highlight that it does happen in order to show that it’s just as wrong as a male perpetrator grooming someone.
As her time with the show comes to an end though, Louisa couldn’t help but heap praise on her young co-star Joe-Warren Plant for his role in the storyline – and told us that both he and Matthew Wolfenden, who plays David Metcalfe, had been her rocks throughout filming.
But quite how the story ends for Maya remains to be seen…
