On My Block season four was released on Monday, October 4, 2021 following the announcement the comedy-drama had been cancelled but fans still had 10 episodes to watch to discover what happened to the group of friends. Netflix has already ordered a spin-off television series called Freeridge as the main show comes to an end, with creators of the original series, Lauren Iungerich, Eddie Gonzalez, and Jeremy Haft, behind the wheels. However, the ending of the hit teen drama needs to be explained and here is everything you need to know about the season four finale.
What happened at the end of On My Block season four?
Each of the core four had their own storyline strands in season four, which culminated around a bigger plot of them finishing high school and starting to make plans for the future.
In the case of Cesar Diaz’s (played Diego Tinco) brother Oscar Diaz (Julio Macias), he was a changed man as the new episodes started, living with his girlfriend and was making plans to leave the Los Santos neighbourhood.
With a daughter in tow, they wanted to make the best life possible but Oscar, or Spooky as he was known to his friends, was dragged into drama with his brother Cesar.
Wanting to get his sibling away from the dangers lurking in the neighbourhood, Oscar asked him to move to Portland with his family to which he bluntly declined.
Not long after, Oscar had to bail out his brother for beating a drug dealer but as the tensions continued to rise in the neighbourhood, Cesar changed his mind about the move.
Excited to see his family coming together, Oscar went to tell his girlfriend the news but was shot down in the process.
Cesar tries to save his brother and tells him everything is going to be ok though unfortunately, Oscar dies in his arms.
As the youngster tried to deal with his loss, another mystery going down in season four was regarding Jamal Turner’s (Brett Gray) stalker.
In season three, Jamal was stalked by a girl called Kendra (Troy Leigh-Anne Johnson) and in the final episode of season four, she appeared again.
Jamal ran after her during prom and saw Kendra jump into a truck but there was no indication as to who was driving it.
When the person gets out of the vehicle, it’s revealed the person who has been following Jamal all season is his idol who he really wants to work for.
It turns out Kendra is head of the intern programme and has been following Jamal’s every step on her bosses orders.
The youngster accepts the position and looks set to have a bright future after also being given the senior class president position.
Unfortunately, this meant Ruby Martinez Jr. (Jason Genao) didn’t get the role but he did go on to win Prom King.
Although he didn’t get the senior call president after falling out with Jamal at the beginning of the season, Ruby’s prom night was also a rocky road to venture.
After taking some advice from Abuelita (Peggy Blow), he asked Jasmine Flores (Jessica Marie Garcia) to be his date to prom.
Jasmine declined his proposal in front of the whole school initially but after a heart to heart where she told him she would be bad luck with regards to his dream to be prom king, they ended up going together.
Upon winning the crown, Ruby asked his love interest to dance with him and they celebrated for the rest of the night.
A happier ending was also curated for Monse Finnie (Sierra Capri) as she finally got her blended family to come together.
Her father Monty Finnie (Reggie Austin) was feeling some sort of closure after Monse’s mother, Julia Whitman (Lisa Marcos) had spread lies within the family and caused a rift.
With all the characters’ stories tied up, it was a heartbreaking ending for Ruby’s grandmother Abuelita, who had been a confidant to all the core four.
When the friends got back to Ruby’s house after prom, they learnt Abuelita had passed after from cancer but her loved ones were not going to let her go in a sorrowful way.
In the closing moments of the finale, they are seen singing and dancing whilst drinking and smoking marijuana, just as the grandmother of the family would have wanted.
The friends are seen remaining united as ever as the show comes to a close, bringing the programme full circle.
On My Block seasons one to four are available to stream on Netflix.
