Teresa Mendoza (played by Alice Braga) could reach the end of her journey in the upcoming fifth season of popular crime drama Queen of the South. A director for the USA Network series recently posted a behind-the-scenes snap on Instagram which fans think could point to the queenpin’s impending demise.
A recent update on the fifth season of Queen of the South has left fans in turmoil after hinting towards Teresa’s death.
Director for the series Ben Hernandez Bray took to his Instagram page in January with a behind-the-scenes look at the new season.
Sat in front of a luxury villa in full face mask and visor, the backdrop will look awfully familiar to viewers who have been with the series since the beginning.
Bray captioned the new post: “Tough job but someone’s gotta do it!”
While the set snap was intended as a light-hearted preview of the show’s extravagant sets, some believe the new post has dark implications.
Many fans will recognise the house as the location in which Teresa is shot during a foreboding flashforward at the beginning of season one.
Although it isn’t confirmed if the drug lord is killed, nor who’s pulling the trigger, most of the fanbase agree the series will eventually come to an end with this pivotal moment in Teresa’s future.
Furthermore, the USA Network have currently not renewed the series for a sixth season, indicating her story could be coming to an end later this year.

Some observant fans took to Reddit to discuss the new details as filming for season five continues in New Orleans.
One user started off the debate and speculated: “New filming location…is this the house where Teresa gets shot in the pilot?”
Heading into season five, Teresa has a number of enemies still at large who could take her down and dismantle her empire.
Teresa’s power-hungry rival, Judge Lafayette (David Andrews) remained alive and well at the end of season four after orchestrating the death of her godson, Tony Parra (Julian Silva).

Meanwhile, the drug lord’s old handler and potential love interest for season five, James Valdez (Peter Gadiot) made his stunning return at the end of the last season.
He arrived being pursued by an unknown threat, with some fans speculating he may have inadvertently brought Camila Vargas (Veronica Falcón) back into the fold.
Whoever manages to take down Teresa, fans are more worried than ever that the clock is rapidly counting down to her all but inevitable death.
One viewer replied: “Definitely looks like it! All of these filming pics have me so excited for Season 5! Can’t wait!”
And another suggested: “Looks like it! Might be another flash forward.”
Showrunner Dailyn Rodriguez reportedly has her fingers crossed the story can continue in season six.
However, as Teresa’s empire continues to grow, she is certainly getting closer to the horrific vision of the future that kicked off the series back in 2016.
Queen of the South season 4 is available to stream on Netflix.
