Sex and the City may have ended 17 years ago but fans remain as loyal as ever to the sassy series filled with ladies who lunch, romances gone-wrong and relatable sex talk. Fast-forward to now and the sassy comedy-drama is returning for the reboot entitled And Just Like That. Unfortunately, it won’t be the same as before with Kim Cattrall not taking part in bringing Sex and the City back to life.
In January 2021, HBO Max revealed that Sarah Jessica Parker, Kristin Davis and Cynthia Nixon would be reunited on screen.
They would be reprising their iconic roles of Carrie Bradshaw, Charlotte York and Miranda Hobbes for the revival of Sex and the City.
However, at the same time as the announcement, it was said that Kim Cattrall would not be back to complete the famous foursome as Samantha Jones.
To many fans though, this didn’t come as too much of a shock.

Years before a reboot was on the cards, Cattrall said she wouldn’t want to do a third SATC movie.
She told the Daily Mail at the time: “Never. It’s a no from me.
“You learn lessons in life, and my lesson is to do work with good people and try and make it fun.”
Reiterating her feelings to Piers Morgan on a return to the franchise, Cattrall stated: “Me playing [Samantha], that I can assure you will never happen.
“This isn’t about more money. This is not about more scenes. It’s not about any of those things.
“This is about a clear decision, an empowered decision in my life to end one chapter and start another. I’m 61. It’s now.”
But this doesn’t mean that Samantha being MIA is going to be brushed under the carpet.
In fact, French actor Thomas Canestraro, who will be having a small role in And Just Like That, has told Express.co.uk that plenty of thought has gone into addressing the issue.
He explained: “The comment every single time when someone talks to me about Sex and the City [is about Kim Cattrall not being in the series].
“She was one of the favourites of a lot of people so the fact she is not here it seems that people are a little bit more on the defensive about the new season because ‘I don’t know how it’s going to be this time with her not in it’.
“At the same time, this is not really a reboot it’s a follow-up of what happened.

Canestraro continued: “Like a lot of shows, this isn’t going to be the exact same show it’s what’s coming up later.
“I think the writers were really brilliant at the time and they know what they’re doing.
“This is something people are thinking now but that has been thought ahead.
“It’s a big-budget so they have enough to compensate what’s missing…maybe it will not be feeling like she’s missing.”
Canestraro was spotted on the set of And Just Like That earlier this year, carrying actress Parker on those famous steps.
He was dressed in a tight bakery worker uniform which grabbed a lot of attention from fans.
But how will he be introduced in the SATC reboot when it begins?
And Just Like That will premiere on HBO in America and on NOW streaming service on Thursday, December 9 in the UK.
