Live action versions of classic cartoons have been all the rage for the past few years, with Disney releasing titles such as Dumbo and the upcoming Aladdin and Lion King.
But other studios are taking advantage of the trend too – Warner Bros with Detective Pikachu and now Paramount with Sonic The Hedgehog.
The trailer for the speedy blue critter was released today and it’s safe to say most Sega fans aren’t impressed.
The almost three-minute clip sees the army team up with Dr Robotnik (played by Jim Carrey) to take on Sonic and his friend Tom Wachowski (James Marsden).
“Please get human teeth Sonic off my timeline”
But rather than keeping everything looking similar to the cartoon, the live action Sonic has almost human-like proportions – and human teeth.
Fans took to Twitter to express their concern about the movie, while plenty joked they wanted to watch it because it didn’t look that great.
One said: “*Watching the Sonic trailer and openly weeping* We did it. We finally did it. We killed God.”
Another tweeted: “Please get human teeth Sonic off my timeline. Why was such a God forsaken creation brought to life in this plane of existence. The same plane I live in.”
A third wrote: “It was a good morning until movie Sonic came into my home and punched me in the throat.”
Another compared it to Detective Pikachu, writing: “Oh my lord Sonic looks so ugly in that movie. I don’t think the realistic features are for him. It’s much better on Pokemon.”
But others still wanted to watch, with one writing: “The Sonic movie looks like a steaming pile of s***. With that, I can’t wait to drink a few too many beverages and fall in love with it.”
A second said: “New Sonic movie looks horrible. I want to watch it.”
And someone else added: “I hate the Sonic trailer with my life. I will be seeing it when it comes out.”
Sonic The Hedgehog is scheduled for release in November.
