The Wheel fans say show is ‘ruined’ as format is changed in Christmas shake-up

Comedian Michael McIntyre was back on our screens on Christmas Day to host a celebrity edition of The Wheel.

Holly Willoughby, Alan Carr and Oti Mabuse all hoped to answer their way to a fortune for their chosen charities, guided by seven celebrity experts.

Alexander Armstrong, Christopher Biggins, Clare Balding, Howard Donald, Kate Bottley, Olly Smith and Ainsley Harriott were on hand to help answer questions on everything from Christmas dinner to pantomimes.

However, eagled-eyed viewers noticed a major change to the show's format during the special episode.

The catchy theme tune which usually plays when host Michael yells "Spin the wheel" was replaced by iconic Christmas songs in a bid to spread some festive cheer.

Fans of the show rushed to the keyboards to discuss the shake-up.

Taking to Twitter, one viewer moaned: "Fuming they’re playing Christmas music and not the wheel tune!"

A second social media user said: "Me sulking because they’re not playing the usual The Wheel music even though it’s for Christmas!"

While a third posted: "What’s the point in The Wheel if they don’t play the banger of a theme tune while they are spinning?"

"Only tuned in to hear the theme tune song… instead they’re playing Christmas songs," a fourth ranted.

On the other hand, a majority of viewers were delighted to see the special edition of the BBC game show.

One fan posted: "Awwww there's even Christmas music playing as the wheel spins, I love this!"

Another added: "I love The Wheel."

A third person posted: "The Wheel shouldn’t work, but it does.

While a fourth said: "I love The Wheel and glad they have a Christmas one on @BBCOne."

Speaking about The Wheel previously, host Michael said: "I am thrilled to be hosting a show that does reinvent the wheel!

"Contestants will be competing to win big money, celebrity experts will have their knowledge put the test, and I will desperately be trying to avoid too many puns.

"I simply can't wait to get behind the wheel, I'm dizzy with excitement!"
